In America, a White man can have a fucked up character, no morality and lack integrity, but is still revered and celebrated. But a Black or Brown man can be an honest, upstanding citizen, who has overcome the odds, but is still torn down, degraded and villainized. Makes no sense!
And we don’t often consider the plight of Black and Brown men because there’s an assumption that, as Black and Brown men, our male privilege protects us from the hostilities that are often directed towards us.
Yet, we forget that it’s our male privilege that makes us more of a target because, in the context of a white supremacist patriarchy, we are seen as the ultimate threats to the status quo.
This is the reason why the prison industrial complex is filled with Black and Brown men.
This is the reason why being a courageous, free-thinking Black or Brown man is discouraged.
This is the reason why we are constantly under threat of being emasculated and buck broken.
Because, if Black and Brown men were to ever get our shit together, unite our forces and become empowered collectively, there’s no telling what we can accomplish in this world; alongside, of course, Black and Brown women, who have been the foundation and the center of our very existence.
Just something to think about, as we bare witness, in real time, to the evolution of America.
