Perfumer Spotlight Series: Discover the Artists Behind Our Fragrances. Introducing Mireille Picard… Growing up in a French castle in Loire Valley, Mireille was enchanted by the aromas in her mother’s garden. Magnolia, freesia, primrose, lilac, peony, honeysuckle – the list goes on. This early love for scents transitioned into a keen interest in men’s fragrances, which led her to perfumery school in Provence and, in 1998, to working with us at Quintessence. Recently, Mireille’s father found out that his great grand uncle was Georges de Laire, the first chemist to create some of the most used chemical ingredients used in perfumery today. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿? It’s not very glamourous, but when I was 17 and went to orientation/career class, and I realised that there was such a thing as a perfumery school! 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆? Yes, Timut Pepper, I love its zingy zestyness and originality. And more recently I love Roasted Tonka Extract, which brings a gourmand but sensual and warm effect at the same time. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲? It’s more a blissful than a happy memory - when I was dancing the Brazilian partner dance called Forró, with the best dancer ever, and he was wearing the perfume that I had created for him, and I was swirling in his arms.
What a great story!
+1 on Timur ! 👊Mireille Picard 😝
