Some in the public may not realize just how hard school board trustees work. Their service is a tireless devotion to continuous improvement. “As Superintendent, I believe education is the cornerstone of our community, an investment in our children's future and the bedrock of societal progress. In this endeavor, the role of our school board trustees is paramount. Their decisions shape the educational landscape, directly impacting our children, educators, and, by extension, every taxpayer, parent, and resident in our district both now and for future generations. But what empowers these trustees to make informed, effective decisions? The answer lies in their ongoing commitment to professional development.”… Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/g-wzbG_4

ISBE has just released a "Getting Started Toolkit" to guide everyone--educators, policymakers, and community members--through the ways in which the new Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan can be implemented. Here's a link to that toolkit here: https://lnkd.in/ghenWWgF There's so much helpful guidance in this toolkit! Information on: Legislation Implementation processes Screening information Tools and resources And so much more! I'm really excited to see how comprehensive the Literacy Plan is and also excited to see it moving forward with all stakeholders in mind. One common question I keep getting from principals is regarding curriculum options. ISBE does NOT endorse specific programs or resources (lessons we learned from Reading First) but does provide a Curriculum Evaluation Tool you can find here: https://lnkd.in/geYn8i73 😃 "The Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan's Getting Started Toolkit is more than just a collection of documents; it is a roadmap for transforming literacy education across the state. The toolkit offers detailed guidance tailored to each stakeholder, thus ensuring that policymakers, educators, and families are equipped to play an active role in achieving literacy for all. As this initiative unfolds, it promises to make a significant impact on literacy outcomes, setting a strong foundation for lifelong learning and success." I can't wait to help Literacy Leaders successfully move forward with this plan! 😃

Educational Therapist| International School Teacher| Veteran turned Teacher with 8 years of K-5 teaching experience and 16 years of executive level leadership looking to work with an innovative Oakland based charter
😂 this lady does not mince her words or pull her punches........ and she is right the American education industry has long been a market where there has been a lot of nothing going on for the most part, we don't hold firm enough standards, especially in urban education where you will find a lot of buzz words, and excuses to justify missing the mark but accountability, results and centering student achievement need to be the priorities. Education is the most serious business, and we must start acting like it because SA is the exception and not the rule right now; too many educators and admins are stagnant. In any other industry, district leadership would be either out of a job or feeling the heat, either we figure out how to produce results or move on. Our kids are capable of more than what is being justified across the country. hurt feelings? thoughts? feel free to @me. #charterschools #smarterbalanced #assessments #commoncore #ELA #math #summativeassessments #oakland #titleone #LCPS
At a time when school districts across the country are lowering standards, inflating grades, and limiting opportunities, Success Academy continues to prove what is possible in public education. When we put students first, set high expectations and hold everyone accountable for results – this is what kids can accomplish.
Success Academy’s Regents results again prove charters are a win for kids

🚨 Let's Set the Record Straight: Charter Schools Are Not Private Schools! 🚨 Recently, I came across an article discussing a well-known charter school organization, and I was taken aback by the misconceptions circulating in the comments section. It's disheartening to see that in 2024, there's still confusion about what charter schools really are. Charter schools are public schools, funded by taxpayers, and open to all students, regardless of background or ability. They operate independently, allowing for innovative approaches to education tailored to the needs of their communities. To dispel myths and promote understanding, it's crucial for school leaders, authorizers, alliances, coalitions, associations, vendors, and everyone in the education community to do their part. Share the facts about charter schools and help educate others about their vital role in our education system. Check out this insightful article from the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA) to bust three common charter school myths: https://lnkd.in/ekTpGTNU Together, let's ensure that accurate information prevails and that charter schools continue to thrive as a valuable component of our public education landscape. 💡📚 #CharterSchools #Education #FactsMatter #charteradvocate #facts

Strategy, Policy, and School Support as the Director of School Development at Chicago Public Schools
https://lnkd.in/eFR-TqRT I'm very excited about the results so far of the U Chicago Education Lab's study on the effects of restorative justice in schools, finding that it has significant, positive changes in student behavior. People are social, and we learn social systems in school: A punitive school makes for a child with a punitive worldview. This working paper (and website for an overview) quantifies how restorative justice, as opposed to a more punitive classroom management framework, achieves: - Reduced instances of out-of-school suspensions, - Reduced instances of student arrests in and out of school, - Reduced instances of student violent and non-violent offenses, - Improved perception of school climate among students, - And the kicker: no increase in disruption in the classroom compared to punitive discipline. The longstanding justification of punitive discipline is that it prevents disruptions that make it hard for the rest of the class to learn. This study finds quantifies evidence of a better alternative. The study also suggests how restorative practices can best be implemented, noting differences in training models and thresholds that produce more effective results. Education organizations have long talked about equity in discipline; many charter schools in Chicago have done amazing work in recent years implementing restorative practices. But others have merely expressed their values, even publishing equity manifestos, while their suspension rates (particularly among Black students) stay high. This study offers concrete evidence about a real student-centered system that schools and districts can implement to act in service of their expressed values.
