Hands-on seasoned tax professional with over 12 years of experience in indirect tax compliance and planning. I specialize in operational efficiency through process, procedure, and document improvements.
As a job seeker, I am little puzzled here! So far, I have seen this posting and contacted by 3 different recruiting agencies. This is a temp-position with a well-known global entertainment company that needs an experienced international income tax professional. I think that I am not qualified for this position but all 3 of those recruiters think I am. What a waste of time, please do better. There are few agencies that never got in touch with me regarding indirect tax position that I am very qualified for. For those agencies, please have the curtesy to at least send a personal note besides your auto-reply. Moral of the story: there are incompetent recruiting agencies and people out there trying to take advantage and give false hope to job seekers like me.

When seeking employment, you may opt for a contractual position. Depending on the employer, this could be for a very temporal role, or might lead to permanent employment, which would be wonderful. Regardless if it is an assignment directly through an employer, or mediated for a third party, there are a few things that you cannot do, which are not only are illegal, but also punishable by law as a potential employer. One of which is called "bait and switch" employment, where an prospective employer illustrates a description of the position & job duties, only for the candidate for the work to find out that it is opposite of what was entailed, or dissimilar from the original agreement. Below is a brief overview: In California, the term "bait and switch" in the context of employment refers to a situation where an employer misrepresents a job offer or employment conditions to entice a candidate, only to change the terms once the candidate has accepted the job. This can include misleading job descriptions, promises of certain conditions, or details about compensation that are not met once the candidate starts working. California labor laws offer some protections against unfair and deceptive practices, but if you find yourself in a "bait and switch" situation, here are some steps you can take: Document Everything: Keep records of job advertisements, offers, emails, and any written or verbal communication that reflects the promises made by the employer. Review Your Employment Contract: Check if there is a written agreement that specifies the terms of your employment. This can help determine whether the employer's actions constitute a breach of contract. Communicate with the Employer: If possible, discuss your concerns with the employer to see if a resolution can be reached. Sometimes misunderstandings can be resolved through direct communication. Seek Legal Advice: If the issue isn't resolved or if you believe the employer's actions violate California labor laws, consulting with an employment lawyer can provide you with guidance. They can help you understand your rights and potential legal remedies. File a Complaint: You can also file a complaint with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) if you believe the situation involves discrimination or other illegal practices. Employers are generally expected to provide accurate and truthful information about job positions and working conditions. If they fail to do so, they may be subject to legal consequences depending on the specifics of the situation.

In both tax and recruitment, the key is to think long-term. Quick fixes might offer immediate relief, but they rarely lead to lasting success. Instead, focus on creating a strategy that aligns with your overall business objectives. Tax is not just about compliance; it's about strategy. A well-thought-out tax strategy can save your business money and open up new opportunities. Think of it as a chess game where every move counts. Are you leveraging tax incentives? Are you aware of the latest regulations that could impact your bottom line? If not, it's time to get proactive. Now, let's talk recruitment. Hiring isn't just filling a vacancy; it's about building a team that aligns with your company's vision and goals. Strategic recruitment means understanding the skills you need today and anticipating the ones you'll need tomorrow. It's about finding the right fit, not just the right resume. Remember, strategic decision-making isn't a one-time event; it's an ongoing process. Stay informed, stay flexible, and most importantly, stay committed to your goals. #TaxStrategy #Recruitment #BusinessGrowth
