In the spirit of looking back, moving forward - February was a month where I had to leap beyond limit (pun intended). This month was one of life, light, long-suffering and of course, love. In sharing my February highlights, I opt to take a page from HR Governance & ER's Divisional Communication Meeting(DCM) Theme & its Message by showing the love and acknowledgement to my colleagues & their undeniable hardwork ethic. Student Internship Program | It was exhilarating to witness an idea come to life. Yolanda Magobongo's facilitation skills fostered an environment whereby our incoming talent pipeline can already create networking relationship amongst each other. EVP Drives | The beauty of caring for others is its impact impacts you. The passion & motivation from our EVP Reps when encouraging our colleagues' support is highly commendable. It was fantastic having a Friday where we can Flip Out for CHOC. "Community, community, community" is the language our HR Gov & ER team speak in all their initiatives. When they hosted the DCM this month, that language continued to be spoken. It's a language I dearly gravitate towards. Corporate Induction | "As iron sharpens iron so one sharpens another" - Proverbs 27:17 and "what you learn - teach." This session created an enlightening and collaborative opportunity whereby our new colleagues were being sharpened by their experienced colleagues. This session created link to the Student Orientation Programme - ultimately building on the on boarding experience. It connected the dots beyond just the critical information but also in the long lasting bonds we wish to create in Mercedes-Benz South Africa . Plant Opening | The outcome of any project will always be spectacular to see but what I find makes the outcome most special and enjoyable is the Behind-The-Scenes. You are involved in the creative-making spaces whereby rough draft of ideas are bounced around. Often those raw ideas are good options that one may not see in the final output. The teamwork flow my Corporate Affairs colleagues showed at the event was seamless. The team demonstrated the importance of knowing and valuing your role and its responsibility as it forms a critical part to the overall picture being a success. A Pinch Me Moment | Taking a picture with our Top Executives was indeed a leaping Top-Tier Highlight for Me. Happy #nationalapprenticeshipweek ! As first year apprentices at Pinsent Masons, we know all too well just how challenging (yet rewarding) the application process can be, which is why we have come together to provide aspiring applicants advice for each of the 5 common stages of the application process. So to round #NAW2024 up, Hadia Habibi will be tackling the online application form stage, Anna Welch will take on the interview stage, Rachel-Marie Bowker will discuss the assessment centre stage, and finally Temiloluwa Kila will end off with advice on dealing with the final acceptance/rejection stage. That means that I have the honour of covering the blended assessment stage! This will be the second step in your application journey, so will be one of the firm’s first opportunities to see what you’re made of… (no pressure!) The online blended assessment incorporates situational judgement questions, case studies, and a short recorded video interview. This variety will allow firms to see how you would perform under different circumstances and against a variety of tasks. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate your attention to detail; I will run through how you can do so in each instance: 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: prima facie, it may be easy to underestimate how you can demonstrate attention to detail and skilled decision-making, but it is incredibly important here to stick to your principles of reading the question carefully, reading the possible answers carefully, and following a logical chain of reasoning to reach your conclusion. Make sure you understand the question and haven’t missed any negative prefixes or small words that reverse the meaning of the phrase. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀: now it’s time to put your lawyer glasses on… when (carefully) reading the stimulus, what stands out to you? And more importantly; how would your client feel about it?! If you are asked to write something externally facing (or internal at that!), is your spelling, punctuation and grammar correct? Have you adapted your language to the individual/group you are addressing? 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: this is where you may want to consider things like whether you’re saying the firm’s name right (phonetically: pin-sent-may-sons) and test that the audio of your recording device is working properly before you record the most mind-blowing, revolutionary, sensational video and have to restart... Above all else, my main advice is always authenticity: this is the golden thread that should weave through each stage of the application process - be yourself, and be confident in yourself! Three years ago, I stepped into the world of HR as a newcomer and joined the Eesti HR Selts / Estonian HR Society project "New in Estonian HR." Here I met my mentor, Ingrid, who was the HR Manager at Postimees Grupp at the time. Little did I know, this connection would shape my journey in incredible ways. Life has a fascinating way of unfolding unexpected opportunities! This photo with my two mentors was taken at the time when, as part of my HR studies at the Estonian Entrepreneurship University of Applied Sciences / EEK Mainor, I needed to complete an internship. Ingrid invited me to join Postimees Grupp, and Karin was my academic supervisor from EEK Mainor. Fast forward to today, I have graduated and, thanks to an invitation from Karin, I returned to EEK Mainor as a lecturer. Who would have thought that I would be the one inviting Ingrid to join me in this new academic adventure? Our first semester as lecturers has just concluded, and on top of this, my mentors have become my dear friends. Reflecting on this journey, I am reminded of the power of networking and the importance of being open to new opportunities. Here are some takeaways: 🌟 Embrace new roles and let your career surprise you. 🌟 As someone new to a field, networking is invaluable. 🌟 The value of mentors cannot be overstated. 🌟 Stay connected; relationships built on genuine interactions often lead to the most fulfilling professional experiences. 🌟 It’s all about people.
