When board members open their homes for the school, they're not just hosting an event—they're making another form of personal investment in the mission they cherish. There’s a deep sense of fulfillment that comes from seeing their efforts and their hospitality directly contribute to the school’s success. It strengthens their connection to the school and its community, and reinforces their purpose as the institutions highest form of volunteer. When you do something meaningful for an organization you care about, it’s more than just duty—it’s a source of pride and personal joy. That’s the true reward of leadership. Increasing diversity on your leadership team should be part of your DEI strategy. It is not enough to have diversity in your non-leadership positions. It shows your true commitment to inclusion.

Such a joy to join the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA Women's Leadership Resource Network to discuss one of my favorite things: values! My personal values are: Accountability, Courage, Ease, and Kindness, and my annual mission statement includes a statement or two about my values. It's really powerful to see how this mission statement changes each year. For 2024, it reads: 🔸 My purpose is to normalize the reality of workplace transitions, and support those who seek leaving well with intention and joy. 🔸 I lead with kindness, and believe in courage and accountability as needed steps in the staircase of change. 🔸 I enter spaces authentically, with welcoming, and possess fierce quiet power. 🔸 I will be known as someone who pushed the envelope, insisted on integrity, and showed up for impact. Each of us has the opportunity to 'operationalize' our values by choosing 1-2 small ways those values can live out in the open. If you think about the folks you most respect, it's very likely that the things you admire about them have a lot to do with their personal values. Student-led organizations are vibrant hubs of innovation, advocacy, and growth within educational institutions. These groups serve as breeding grounds for future leaders, offering invaluable experiences that shape individuals beyond the classroom. Yet, for many years, there has been an ongoing conversation about the representation of Black individuals in leadership roles within these organizations.
