Seems to be a discrepancy recently around what a hiring company want/need, and what those specific people want/need as their next step. I’m seeing an increase in scientists not applying or even rejecting offers as the work is too similar to what they’ve done before. They’re the perfect candidate, and that makes it less attractive to them. For companies developing quantum technologies, the requirements were a lot looser 2-3 years ago than they are now – which means the scientists who joined were capable AND likely picking up something new. Now the requirements are tight, the bar for hiring is higher – but to those passing the test, what will they learn in the new role? Probably worth keeping in mind when you’re hiring. #quantumtechnology #quantumcomputing #recruitment

Medical Science Liaison | Medical Affairs | Medico Marketing | KOL management | Strategic communication | Digital health | Ex- Entrepreneur
So you want to switch from clinical medicine I'm listing down the pre-requisites. Save them for future reference. 1) Where to? Consulting? Pharma? Health-tech startups? Public health? Tech ( Yes it's possible!) Data science? Cybersecurity (Yes that too is possible!) Marketing? Finance? Think about it. 2) Reach out to people who are already in the #jobs you wanna be in 4) Read up on the #industry, the major players, deals, pipelines, mergers and acquisitions, future #growth areas. 3) These are the jobs you can apply to. So make a note for current and future openings. 4) Prepare a CV and a cover letter accordingly. The cover letter should mention why you are the right candidate, why that role and why the #company? 5) Apply, apply, apply and be patient. If you can score referrals, nothing like it. More on every pointer in the upcoming posts.

I've found this to broadly be the case, with a couple of caveats: 1) Each company has its own, slightly different, set of titles and promotion structure. So it may not universally be the case that PhDs are "overqualified" for RA, SRA or other similar titles. 2) The market is really tough right now, and there are only so many Scientist positions open. For those that are open, the hiring team is being highly selective for candidates with the exact skills and experience in the job listing. It isn't difficult to quickly exhaust all of the positions you're "qualified" for and only have RA/SRA positions remaining. I feel like on this website, people don't really talk about how you need to pay rent and buy food at some point! And recent graduates tend to have nothing in the bank! So it may be worth applying to some of those and hope that your resume finds an understanding person who is willing to hear your story.
Biotech recruiter tip: If you have a PhD, do not apply for Research Associate jobs. Apply to Scientist and higher-level jobs. From a personal perspective, you worked hard and learned a lot in that degree! You shouldn't undersell yourself by applying to a position where you are overqualified. From a practical perspective, recruiters and hiring managers will often immediately skip PhDs who apply to Research Associate jobs. Don't spend time applying if your resume will just be skipped. Take time to find the right position and put all your effort into it.
