I’ve spoken with a lot of businesses recently that have a common problem when it comes to hiring…   The majority have said that they’ve struggled with the quality of candidates from the CV’s that they’re receiving, more specifically Control System Engineers.   As some would say ‘they don’t make them like they used to’.   As much as this is true for specific companies, I’d like to say that the recruiters that they’re working with are probably looking in the wrong places or just haven’t qualified the candidates to a high enough standard.   It’s easy to come across a good CV on the job board but a genuinely good candidate is a different story – I could probably write a really good CV for a Controls Engineer given I spend all day talking to them but if you ask me to do the job I’d have no chance.   The approach I personally take is an initial in depth conversation to walk around expectation and experience, a second chat to dig a bit deeper into what the clients’ requirements are, some screening questions to whittle out the people that can ‘talk the talk’ and finally a reference check.   On that note, I’ve been talking to loads of multi-skilled Control System Engineers that can take projects from the Electrical Design stages to Programming and then through to Commissioning, so if this is something you struggle with then give me a call.   I’d be interested to understand what other problems people are facing when hiring, so feel free to pop a comment below 😊 #hiring #hiring2023 #hiringpost #recruitment #recruiting #recruiterlife #recruitertips
