Creative solutions are part of The DGL Difference. A signalized crossing for horses? We can do that. When the North Royalton City Schools District constructed their new elementary school on State Road (SR 94), DGL worked with ThenDesign Architecture (TDA) to update the public infrastructure around the school. A new signal was added at the State Road and Valley Parkway intersection to better serve the school traffic. Valley Parkway is part of the Cleveland Metroparks and also offers a multi-use path and an equestrian path. To serve all users, pushbuttons were added at the normal height for pedestrians (3'-6"). A second set of pushbuttons was mounted (6'-4") so that a person riding a horse can activate the crosswalk without dismounting. You have a special map that shows where to dig and where to put the sand to build a cool castle. These reflections on the skeletons of structures become a visual echo of the transformation we face, a wordless narrative of the changes unfolding around us. In this space of reflection, we bear witness to the dialectic between the ephemeral and the eternal, between the impermanence of our surroundings and the permanence of the human essence. Rain and light act as revealing agents, stripping reality of its veils to expose its true changing and evolving nature.
