A rite of passage is the tradition associated with moving from one group to another. For the children in my area, this involves water guns, water balloons and silly string on the last day of school (usually when they get off the bus).
This year, my oldest wanted to be picked up in carpool on the last day (possibly to avoid the ceremony) so like any good mother, I devised a plan to keep the tradition alive. Sure, the water guns were smaller and the event only lasted a few seconds, but the look on their faces as I squirted my son and his friends out the passenger window was priceless.
As a parent, my social media feed is full of ideas to celebrate milestones, but as a leader, I’m generally left to my own creativity when it comes to creating traditions and ceremonies.
