For those not around, this period of time produced some of the more extreme weather patterns in recorded history. The day the Blizzard of ‘78 hit MA was officially the day I entered the work force. I had to deliver newspapers by sled in blinding, two-foot snows. Some of the worst winter storms, some stretching into May of 1977 (up to 20 inches of snow May 9th in MA), were split by a heat wave from Phoenix to Boston that sent temps for many days over 100°. –There was snow in Tampa. –Residents in the Midwest experienced temps under freezing for 40 days. –In MA and other regions, we were assaulted by biblical thundersnow, which is actually a thing. –Snowmobilers helping rescue efforts needed to avoid electrical wires. –Thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed on Cape Cod when 8-15 swells busted over retainer walls. –Thousands of cars were abandoned. –Residents in Buffalo could stand in snow piled as high as their tippity-rooftops. –The roof of the Hartford Civic Center collapsed. –Milk and eggs could not be found on store shelves, but toilet paper could. –In the summer of ‘77, a family friend in NH cooked an egg on a rock in his back yard. This spellbinding video explains exactly what happened and why–understandably. Things I wish it did but does not, however, delve into: –What caused the highly unusual, elevated water surface temps that started the whole thing off? –What did indigenous people think of these "disasters"? Also, just so it's said: "survivor" is spelled with a -or at the end, not -er. 🤓 #NatureRules #NatureFirst #ISurvivedTheBlizzardOf78

Weather forecasting is pivotal for wind farms, enabling operators to enhance turbine efficiency by predicting wind patterns, schedule maintenance during low-yield periods, ensure safety, and integrate generated energy effectively into the power grid. Such forecasting also informs strategic decisions for new installations and drives technological advancements in turbine design to accommodate changing climatic conditions. By leveraging accurate weather predictions, wind farms can optimize their output, contribute more reliably to the energy mix, and advance the goals of sustainable and renewable energy. #weatherintelligence #climatetech #windenergy WindBorne Systems
From a record warm February, to a wind-fueled tumbleweed invasion in the Western U.S., and Texas’s largest wildfire, the past week has seen no shortage of extreme weather headlines. Another anomaly: a blizzard dumped as much as 6 to 11 feet of snow on California’s Sierra Nevadas, causing outages and whiteouts. Ski resorts got plenty of powder: Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort, for example, saw more snow in the first three days of March than its historical average snowfall for the entire month. 🏔 Here’s a snapshot of the cold air mass moving across the Sierras, from our AI model, WeatherMesh ༄ 👇 #weatherintelligence #climatetech
