Planning has been approved for Callander Community Campus by the National Park Planning Authority ✅ The scheme will deliver a vibrant and inclusive campus for Stirling Council that enhances the learner journey from nursery to high school. The new Callander primary school will sit adjacent to Callander Nursery, McLaren High School and McLaren Leisure Centre, creating a new community campus. Chris Malcolm, partner at Ryder, said: "This is a really important project for us within the beautiful setting of the national park, and is a good example of what can be achieved through sensitive engagement and a considered approach to working with context. College opens £5.4 million inclusive learning hub “The Gateway will provide much-needed facilities to support the learning and development of students at the Basford campus, and alongside the Construction Skills Centre, we’re delighted to have played a critical role in bringing these landmark buildings to fruition.” The Gateway, a £5.4 million centre at Nottingham College’s Basford campus, designed to enhance opportunities for students with learning difficulties and disabilities, has been completed, providing “an exceptional facility” where students will “truly thrive”. Planning approval secured ✅ Miller Goodall Ltd prepared the air quality ES Chapter and lighting impact assessment submissions. The northern facade of the building is opposite railway arches and the route along the northern facade provides a route to a nursery/residential block (staff entrance, and bin collection). An assessment of lighting impact to bats at the arches and ensuring a safe route for the neighbour (security, safety, comfort) was completed. The route, currently, is lit by street lighting spill and has a line of sight to the road, which will be lost once the building goes up. Sometimes, you don't need to overcomplicate a solution. Our lighting design provides several 'box' luminaires fixed to the facade. These have zero upward light spill (zero bat impact), provide a stylish finish and ensure the route feels safe and lit. Also providing the necessary lighting for CCTV. The building frontage will be lit by light from existing street lights. We also provided advice and a product should the Applicant wish to include an up/down light along the frontage. #lighting #planning

Willmott Dixon lands £23m Surrey SEND school Surrey County Council has awarded Willmott Dixon a £23m contract build a new home for Hopescourt School in Walton-on-Thames. The new Hopescourt School for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will be Surrey’s flagship net zero carbon special free school. When complete, scheduled for spring 2026, it will offer places for 200 autistic pupils aged 4-19 years as well as those with communication and interaction needs, supporting Surrey County Council’s commitment to inclusive education. Hopescourt School opened on a temporary site in West Molesey in September this year after two years of planning and development in a partnership between Surrey County Council and Bourne Education Trust with Freemantles School in Woking, and the Department for Education Regions Group. We’re excited to have begun work to deliver a 420-pupil primary school near Burton upon Trent! Drakelow Primary School – the latest in a long line of educational establishments to be delivered by Clegg Construction - will be sustainably located at the heart of a 2,200-home residential estate currently under construction by client Countryside Partnerships on the former Drakelow power station site. Designed by multi-disciplinary consultants ONE Creative environments (ONE) , the new school’s indoor and outdoor areas will maximise the learning experience, with classrooms flowing onto outdoor teaching spaces to allow for integration of inside and outside teaching. New sports facilities, including a 3G pitch, will be included, as well as a habitat area to provide forest school experiences. The building’s heating capacity will be met by externally mounted air source heat pumps and the school will benefit from underfloor heating fed from a low-temperature hot water system from the central heat pump plant. The Victoria Building in Blackburn has reached a key milestone in its refurbishment with a celebratory topping-out ceremony. The project, a collaboration between BAM, Department for Education, and Mott MacDonald, is restoring the historic 137 year old building as part of Blackburn College (UK)’s Learning Quarter. Once completed in 2026, the grade II listed building will will be equipped with state of the art facilities to serve as a hub for education, innovation, and community engagement. Key highlights: 👉 BAM have implemented one of the most advanced scaffolding projects in the UK to carry out the work. 👉Blackburn College can serve over 6,000 students annually. 👉The project has `been giving Blackburn College students real-world insight into industry practices Dr Fazal Dad CBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Blackburn College, said: “The Victoria Building holds immense significance for both Blackburn College and our local community.
