Ask yourself this…. Do you attach your identity, values or “how good of a person you are” to how well you perform (this applies to everything in life, not just training/sport). I know I can relate to some people here, because I struggle with this too. We attach our identity, who we are, and how good of a person we are to how well we perform in a workout or how good we are at a certain sport, using training as an example, however this can be applied to anything in life. I played GAA back home to a high level, and when I gave that up, I struggled hugely. “Who is Rachel without GAA?” I based my worth as an individual on my involvement in this sport. Your true worth as a person extends far beyond your training/performance abilities!! While performance is a helpful metric of personal growth, it does not define who we are as people. Recognize that your true worth lies in the unique qualities, passions, and experiences that make you who you are. You are more than just your achievements.

Coaching Administration & Research Officer Ulster GAA, Coach Developer Assessor, Coach Educator, Coach
Ulster GAA is currently undertaking its 2nd Club Audit. This is being completed by Ulster GAA with the support of Ulster University and Sheffield Hallam University. This project is being undertaken to get an updated picture of the sheer volume of work that our clubs are doing across the province since the previous baseline study in 2019. In 2019 we had a 97% return on the audit. We hope to increase this return and ensure all clubs have presented data. This piece of work should give an accurate picture of how the health of the GAA in Ulster has changed and more importantly how our clubs are functioning since the baseline study. This information will help to: 1. reset the 2019 baselines, 2. inform Ulster GAA and our clubs of the 'health" status of our province, 3. identify gaps to develop, 4. inform strategy, plans and work programmes, and get an overall updated snapshot of where we as clubs are in key areas.

Fun Speed Drill to End Your Warm-Up With: Follow the Leader 🏃♂️ Here is a drill I took with a local football team at the end of the warm up. In pairs, one person is the leader and the other is the follower. The leader shuffles, and the follower tracks their movement until the leader decides when to go to a line on either side. The follower aims to beat them or tag them before they reach the line. ⬆ Speed ⬆ Reaction Time ⬆ Learning to be in an athletic position to move quickly in any direction. Progress by adding a turn and going back to the middle line, or try different starting positions. Races always provide fun, intent, and competitiveness to the group, so try to add races in your practice throughout the week. Give it a go and share how you get on. #speed #warmups #strengthandconditioning #sportstraining

Don’t put a limit on what you can do! ⭐️ I remember people very close to me telling me that bodybuilding was “gross.” ⭐️ I did it anyway. I am always trying to learn and grow. Isn’t that what life is about? ⭐️ So at age 42 I earned the opportunity to compete at World Championships. It wasn’t for the money or the medal. It was for the simple satisfaction of following through with what I committed to and giving my all. ⭐️ We don’t know exactly what the outcome will be. We can’t predict the future. But what we can do is GO FOR IT! ⭐️ So rather than worrying about results we don’t want, change the way you think about it. ⭐️ So I ask…. What if you can inspire someone to do something they always wanted to do but they just didn’t know how? When you GO you WILL inspire others to GO also🚀🚀🚀🚀 ⭐️ What is the best thing that can happen to you if you GO after that one thing you’ve been waiting to do? #athleteachievementacademy #professionalathlete

Today I've hit an interesting personal milestone: I finished 4 consecutive 10Km runs in 4 weeks. Each race has been agonizing, with paces > 6:05min/Km and wanting to quit several times. But I am still proud, considering that I was unable to jog for more than 3 minutes straight when I started training in June. There have been two key factors to achieve this: - Setting a training plan and sticking to it. - Comitting to deadlines by signing up to the races. But what if I told you that there is a better way? Eight years ago I was in a similar place, severely overweight and having difficulty to perform any extended physical activities. I was able to turn it around and I ended up running 15Km at a ~5:30 pace without much trouble. How did I achieve that back then? The main difference (besides being younger, of course) is that this year I was alone for the most part, and eight years ago I did it with friends. A group of work colleagues wanted to take on running and we started going for a ~2 mile run around the office once a week. After a month or two, some of us decided that one day wasn't enough and we started meeting a second day. At some point we extended our running loop to three miles. Then we added a third day per week; and after a while I was also running on the weekends by myself or with other friends. It didn't matter that it was the middle of August in Texas, or there was a downpour. We loved what we were doing and there was nothing stopping us. So what is the life lesson here? You can either have an iron will and a plan, or you can surround yourself with people that will challenge you and push you to be better (the second being infinitely more enjoyable). Big shoutout to Chris Olfers, Seth Hubbell and Casey Kulm for pushing me in Austin (there were many other folks, but these guys stuck the longest IIRC 💪 ), and Jesús Lanchas Sampablo for helping me to finish the race today! #motivation #goals #teamwork

Sculling (one person rowing with two oars) teaches you that sitting in a single shell, bellowing inwardly because you keep making mistakes, is a terrific way to practice composure. In other sports, you could throw the equipment on the ground and then drum your heels and shriek. You could take each stupid ball, deflate it, and then shred it into teensy tiny pieces that will never come together again – not ever! You can't do that in rowing because you'll fall out of the boat. Instead, adopt this mindset. - I have this skill - I am building this skill - I do not have this skill A former international athlete who coached our club rowing team told me everything is a lot easier if you stop judging yourself and stick to the facts. Unless you are the Olympic gold medalist, you will always be building skills, and you will always lack a skill you want. But you can be better than you’d ever dreamed if you’d calm down and use those three categories to assess progress. #rowing #crew #sculling #skillbuilding #training #leadership #spandexnation #port #starboard #latetothecatch

What Communications agencies and ski boots have in common? 🎿 You choose them because they fit your requirements the best 🎿 You choose them because they meet your available budget 🎿 You choose them because they feel most comfortable for you It probably sounds obvious, but: ⛷️You shouldn't choose them just because they look the prettiest ⛷️ You shouldn't choose them just because they're the most expensive ⛷️ You shouldn't choose them just because everyone else does After all, no two feet are the same (even our own!) and no two communications leaders are either… Be brave Be bold Be different And always choose the best for your unique needs (Other sports are available) #communicationsagency #smallbusiness #sundaythoughts #skiing
