Let’s break the silence and make menstruation a topic of empowerment, not embarrassment. So, what can we do? Start with conversations. Normalize talking about periods—at home, in schools, everywhere. Push for better access to products and menstrual-friendly spaces. Most importantly, remind every girl that periods are normal part of your life and momentary transformation in your life. Let’s be our girl’s guide.
Her first period is not a milestone for her to fear, but a moment to celebrate. Let’s teach girls to embrace the beauty of growing up with knowledge, confidence, and pride. This National Girl Child Day let’s honor her journey into womanhood by being her guide. #MaxHealthcare #NationalGirlChildDay #WomensHealth

World Health Organization The International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on October 11th, serves as a reminder of the significant challenges girls face across the globe, particularly in Nigeria. In a society deeply rooted in tradition and cultural expectations, girls in Nigeria confront unique obstacles that hinder their growth, education, and health. These challenges are not only societal but also deeply tied to their health and well-being, specifically concerning reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and life-threatening conditions like HPV and cervical cancer. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation The Struggles of the Nigerian Girl Child In many parts of Nigeria, gender inequality begins at birth. Girls are often treated as secondary to boys, with less investment in their education, personal development, and health. Cultural norms discourage girls from being assertive or pursuing careers, as societal pressure places more importance on their roles as future wives and mothers. For many girls, the lack of access to quality education and healthcare limits their opportunities in life, often leaving them vulnerable to poverty, abuse, and poor health outcomes. Health and STI Struggles Sexually transmitted infections, including HPV, disproportionately affect young girls in Nigeria. With limited sexual education and access to health resources, many girls are unaware of the dangers of unprotected sex. The HPV and Cervical Cancer Crisis Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common infection that is often contracted through sexual contact. In many cases, it is preventable through vaccination and regular screening. However, in Nigeria, the awareness and availability of these preventive measures are limited, especially for girls in rural areas. Cervical cancer, which is closely linked to HPV, is a significant health concern for Nigerian women. Due to the lack of awareness and healthcare infrastructure, many women only receive a diagnosis when the cancer is in its late stages, making it harder to treat. Solutions and Advocacy To address these challenges, there must be a multi-faceted approach that includes education, healthcare access, and community support. As an advocate for HPV and cervical cancer screening, I, Augustina Balogun, have been working tirelessly to raise awareness about HPV and cervical cancer in Nigeria. Conclusion On this International Day of the Girl Child, we must continue to advocate for the rights of girls in Nigeria. They deserve access to quality education, healthcare, and the freedom to make choices that will shape their futures. By addressing issues related to sexually transmitted infections, HPV, and cervical cancer, we can help create a healthier and more empowered generation of girls. My mission, as a lead advocate for HPV and cervical cancer prevention, remains to ensure that no girl is left behind. Augustina Balogun Lead Advocate for HPV and Cervical Cancer Prevention
When women and girls have the tools to lead healthy lives, gain an education, and reach their full economic potential, everyone benefits. The foundation's leaders and staff understand this deeply—thanks to the support they received from their teachers, families, and communities during their own girlhood, they were able to learn and grow. Every girl deserves the same opportunity to realize her dreams. On International #DayOfTheGirl, swipe through to see some of our staff as their younger selves.♀🫶

It’s easier to build strong children than to repair broken men. This starts with addressing how boys perceive their masculinity. Is it patriarchal or positive? How do young boys share their emotions, and what are their triggers? These aspects need careful consideration. The result? We build a new paradigm of manhood rooted in respect, empathy and accountability. Our young boys should be on this path so we create a safer and more respectful society. #RaisingGoodBoys #YouthEmpowerment #Primestars

Every minute, 23 girls are married before the age of 18 — nearly one girl every three seconds. It’s a statistic that gives me the chills, because family members and friends of mine were married off at young ages. I saw it happen right in front of me and couldn’t do anything about it when I was a young girl. That’s why I want everyone in my network to know about Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage and enabling girls to fulfill their potential. They unite over 1,400 organizations from more than 100 countries, each working to amplify the voices of girls at risk and support those who have been married as children. It’s a collective effort focused on advocating for girls’ rights to health, education, and opportunities to thrive. Joining this mission allows me to connect my past experiences with impactful global actions. It’s an honor to collaborate with such a dedicated network leading initiatives that make a real difference, but we still have so much work to do. What are your thoughts on this issue? We need to start discussions around this to help girls around the world live a life of freedom and choice. Please help me help those who can’t help themselves. #GirlsNotBrides #EndChildMarriage #EmpowerGirls

THINKING: Adam F.C. Fletcher's "A Future Without Adultism" is not merely a scholarly article but a manifesto for change, advocating for a future where age does not dictate one's value or capability. Sharing and discussing this work can significantly impact our collective journey toward a future that respects and values the contributions of all, regardless of age. I love that Fletcher delineates a future where societal discrimination against youth and bias towards adults are absent, envisioning a world that embraces sustained democracy, freedom, and justice for all, irrespective of age or other biases. This vision challenges current paradigms and offers a blueprint for transformative societal change. Cheers my friend #FutureWithoutAdultism #EndAdultism #YouthEmpowerment #InclusiveDemocracy #AgeEquality #YouthRights #SocialJusticeForAll #AdamFletcher #AntiAdultism #YouthVoice
