The types of franchises that I tend to work with most often are franchises that use an executive business model, both for full time ownership (working your business 30-40 hrs per week) or semi/absentee ownership models (working your business 20-25 hrs per week, managing your manager so you can keep your full time job). Executive model franchises are franchises in which you take on the role of the executive of your business, meaning that you are not performing the function of the business. Your focus is to work ON the business not IN the business. You can still own a landscaping business, as in the first example we discussed, but your role as the owner is to grow and develop your business, not perform the function of the business. You hire technicians who are out in the field performing the function of the business. While you may be a full time owner, active in your business 30 to 40 hours a week, you are never performing the function of that business. Your time is spent on implementing marketing strategies, hiring technicians, overseeing accounts receivables and key productivity indicators as well participating in local chamber of commerce events and networking opportunities in the community. In some cases, the owner may want to take the lead in sales and acquiring client contracts. In other words your time is spent being the executive leader of your business.
