The Tiananmen Square massacre forms an indelible part of RFA’s history, setting into motion the legislation that founded our organization. RFA was created from the ashes of the tragedy to serve the people of China and other places, making sure they had access to independent, credible news and information. To commemorate the occasion, RFA produced a robust series of special reports that includes in-depth interviews with survivors and journalists, as well as analyses on the use of AI to spread PRC disinformation, and public perceptions of the massacre, more than three decades on. https://lnkd.in/ermYBU77

𝐈𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐭, 𝐢𝐭 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋. It was 35 years ago today. Tiananmen Square. An uprising of the people calling for freedom accountability and democracy. The movement was squashed. An unknown number of protesters killed. Today, here in America, demands for democracy are being subverted by fascism. The merger of state and corporate power is real. We The People must fight to restore democracy. A peaceful revolution. SEVENTY percent of Americans want to see a 3rd party in the debates. The two parties are brazenly showing disdain for the people by doing all thy can to keep the debate to two geriatric members of a duopoly who virtually everyone wishes would go away. Forty-three percent of Americans identify as Independent. Our government is, today, employing Tiananmen Square tactics on a more technological level. Tomorrow it may easily be tanks. That's where we are. “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠.” ― Edmund Burke

“The people on both sides of the #Taiwan Strait are all Chinese. There is no dispute that cannot be resolved, there is no problem that cannot be discussed, and no force can separate us,” Xi told Ma. Chinese President #XiJinping and former Taiwanese President #MaYing_jeou held a meeting in #Beijing today, with the aim of fostering unity between the two sides that became divided as a result of the civil war in #1949 What are Ma's intentions and why did Xi choose this moment to hold a meeting? Is Chinese nationalism still influential among #Taiwanese citizens? We appreciate the wonderful Wen-Ti Sung and Dr. Lev Nachman from Taipei to share their timely and important perspectives with our readers! Read my quick report (in Chinese):

"Korean Adoption and Its Global Legacies: 70 Years and Beyond" is a two-day conference (April 13–14) cosponsored by the Buffett Institute that reflects on the origin and legacies of the world’s largest transnational adoption program seventy years after its inception. Bringing together scholars, activists, adopted individuals, first families, journalists and filmmakers, it offers new perspectives that challenge and expand our understanding of adoption’s beginnings in the context of war and militarism, while exploring present-day consequences of South Korea’s industrialized adoption practices on adopted Koreans and their first families. 理想很豐滿、現實很骨感。 342國道上的这一段小插曲堪称中共19大后的又一大新的丑闻阑尾工程。 The ideal is full and the reality is skinny. This episode on National Highway 342 can be called another scandalous appendix project after the 19th session of National Congress of communist party of China.
