An excellent short documentary on the effects that extended k-12 school closures had on kids and society at large. Project Youth Energy which funded the film seeks to repair the damage. #education #educación https://lnkd.in/gZr9ahw4

President / Managing Partner of TLN Media Group, Canada’s most influential multicultural media company
A must watch special report broadcast on TLN TV this past weekend. For any Canadian who worries about the decline of democracy, responsible media, and the authoritarian tendencies of bureaucratic and political elites in this country. Not covered in the story is the apparent collaboration of mainstream media with the City of Toronto's own disinformation and propaganda. Toronto Star and CBC/Radio-Canada who have reported often on this case in the past 4 years have consistently failed to accurately and truthfully report about the seniors, their residence, the history and nature of the property and the motives of the families and neighbors of this poor and defenseless community. Marshall McLuhan was a genius. Here in this short clip he describes life in a world driven to distraction by social media. But the clip is from 1967. https://lnkd.in/g5aK_-Xw

Why did a UK Labour party adopt the worst 1990s neoconservative economic playbook of deficit obsessed spending cuts and bad 1970s style tax increases...after less than two months in office? All the while GDP growth in the UK is 0%. Which economic school of thought did they plumb for such an incoherent mess? The West is in deep serious decline and we have no one to blame but ourselves. https://lnkd.in/gTMbJSVZ

The Western media and elites generally obsess over some conflicts and virtually ignore all others. This is happening in North America and no one is protesting or speaking out on behalf of brave Haitians having to endure horrific crimes. This makes no sense. We should be doing better. https://lnkd.in/gnd4QnRF

The Temporary Foreign Worker Program is no substitute for traditional immigration via permanent residency. The current Liberal Government opened the floodgates to worker exploitation and has now spawned a disturbing trend among employers and a growing backlash amongst Canadians. We need to build back Canada as a destination for permanent residency and immigration. Great reporting by Vanmala Subramaniam. https://lnkd.in/gKTHR3dV

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada does not seem to either a) care b) understand or c) appreciate the principle of "rule of law" in a Common Law country like Canada. Frightening. When we do away with legal precedents we invite tyrants. Fortunately, I'm not the only one concerned. Below is an excellent article by three legal scholars arguing for the importance of past legal decisions. "Legal significance of old decisions: The Chief Justice argued that the legal value of old Supreme Court decisions is “minute.” He referred to these decisions as being merely part of our “legal cultural heritage.” Given the rapid evolution of the law, especially since the adoption of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, he said that “no one today [would] refer to a precedent from 1892 to support their case.” These statements are astonishing. In a common law system such as ours, judicial decisions are legally authoritative unless explicitly overturned. In accordance with the rule of precedent (stare decisis), courts must apply the rules of law established in previous decisions when similar situations arise. The rule of precedent lends stability to the law, allowing individuals to plan their activities so that they stay within the applicable rules." https://lnkd.in/gUTuaA4F

The BBC can now report on the damage done by Covid-era lockdowns...too bad they failed to report a balanced picture at the time. "The slowdown hit as the pandemic ended, partly driven by three years of sudden and complete lockdowns, which strangled economic activity. And that contrast between the years before and after the pandemic is evident in the research by American professors Martin Whyte of Harvard University, Scott Rozelle of Stanford University In 2004, nearly 60% of the respondents said their families’ economic situation had improved over the past five years - and just as many of them felt optimistic about the next five years. However in 2023, only 38.8% felt life had got better for their families. And less than half - about 47% - believed things would improve over the next five years." https://lnkd.in/g3uGkBND
