This Black History Month, let's remind ourselves that standing by silently is not an option when faced with injustice. Let's choose to be the voice for those who are silenced, the strength for those who are weak, and the change we wish to see in the world. Where will you stand? #DesmondTutu #Justice #StandUp #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackHistory365 #BlackHistoryIsAmericanHistory #BlackHistoryIsCanadianHistory

THE DIVERSITY OF THE JEWISH POPULATION IN THE WORLD https://lnkd.in/gq8kU4t4 The #Jewish population is very diverse but has been fairly silent during the #PalestinianGenocide - Maybe this can be a good way to celebrate #blackhistorymonth to help stop the #genocideingaza, not because they are #ChildrenOfAbraham -or #Cain killing #Abel (Genesis 4) all over again, but because it is the decent thing to do. Humans can be decent! Let us hope they wake up! #Peace! Today's visit to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit evoked profound reflections on the struggles and triumphs of my #ancestors. This image from June 1956 offers a glimpse into my family living in Mississippi. In Mississippi, as in many parts of the South, Black bodies faced immense obstacles in accessing #education, #employment, and basic rights. The oppressive grip of racism cast a dark shadow over everyday life, making each step forward a difficult journey. While the impact of this lingers, the love and support of family shines light into the dark spaces. For my family, this period wasn't just a chapter in history; it was their lived experience. While this particular moment may not be pivotal or historic story in history, it is for me. Despite the odds stacked against them, my ancestors persevered with resilience and unwavering determination. Without a doubt, I know their sacrifices and tireless efforts laid the foundation for the opportunities I have today. As I reflect on their legacy, I'm reminded of the importance of continuing their fight for equality and justice. We must honor their memory by advocating for a world where every individual, regardless of race, can thrive without fear. This photo serves as a poignant reminder of how far we've come and how far we still have to go. Let us carry forward the torch of progress, guided by the strength and courage of those who came before us. #BlackHistory #Legacy #Mississippi #Resilience #Family #Detroit #Musuem #History

Last week, Dr. Amir Al-Azraki (CLS) published an article in The Conversation that discusses how anti-Black racism in the Arab world is sustained, in part, by white fragility. The term white fragility refers to the defensive reactions and discomfort exhibited by white people when discussing race and racism. This fragility hinders meaningful dialogue and perpetuates systems of oppression. Not all facets of white fragility seamlessly translate into the modern Arab cultural landscape, but echoes of its influence resonate and shed light on the multifaceted nature of anti-Black racism in the Arab world. Within the Arab context, white fragility reinforces and maintains racist views of Black people, thereby perpetuating anti-Black racism and preserving existing power inequities. As such, tackling the nuances of whiteness and its associated fragility is essential in addressing and dismantling racial hierarchies within Arab societies. Question!🚨 As Preservationists, are we truly upholding the value of "Authenticity" if we do not create space to research/observe the elements that make a historic sites/structures/landscapes authentic? This is one of many questions I asked myself when creating the program "Consider The Perspective". A panel discussion where Black Leadership gathers together to discuss the importance of preserving the deemed "difficult histories" of Post Emancipation Trail Blazers. To watch this discussion please visit the Levi Jordan Plantation Facebook Page or select the link below for an overview. #CulturalPreservation #HistoricPreservation #Juneteenth #BlackHistory #PreservationDesign #BrazoriaTexas #Plantations #MuseumInterpretation #CulturalHeritage #CommunityDevelopment #CommunityEngagement #BlackLeadership #EmancipationProclamation #Juneteenth

Key Term Tuesday: White Fragility Why I Chose This Topic: White fragility is a barrier to open and honest discussions about race. It often leads to defensive reactions that derail conversations and prevent progress toward racial equity. Why It's Important: Recognizing white fragility helps individuals understand their own defensive reactions and work towards being more open and constructive in discussions about race. Resources for Further Learning: “White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism” by Robin DiAngelo “What Is White Fragility?” - The New Yorker “Understanding White Fragility” - National Museum of African American History and Culture #KeyTermTuesday #WhiteFragility #RacialEquity #SocialJustice #DEI

Let us never forget that Black History is an integral part of American History that should never be forgotten or rewritten without its’ original truths. Therefore with today being the last day of Black History Month, let us all be forever thankful for our ancestors who made today possible for us. Let us all daily honor & remember their contributions to America & all of the four corners of this world. It’s time for us to start building onto our predecessor’s legacies & work diligently to erase the negative stereotypes of our people. Let us all work together to move the dream forward for our future generations. Let us all work together to stop the senseless killing of our fellow brothers & sisters. Let us all work together with our other brothers & sisters of different races & creeds to create better communities, states & nations. Let us all work together to genuinely help each other become better. Let us all work together to educate each other instead of trying to eradicate each other. The Rights we have today should never be taken for granted because those Rights came from our ancestor’s blood, sweat, tears & prayers. Our ancestors didn’t struggle, sacrifice & die for us to regress. We must progress & never surrender to those things that threaten our progress.✊🏾 #BlackHistory #AmericanHistory #LoveMore #UnderstandMore #BuildMore #UniteMore #EndHate #Explore #ExplorePage

🔔 Liberty Over Repression: Wisdom from W.E.B. Du Bois 🔔 As Black History Month continues, we reflect on the powerful words of W.E.B. Du Bois, born on this day in 1868: "The cost of liberty is less than the price of repression." Du Bois's legacy as a scholar and civil rights activist challenges us to consider the value of freedom, not just as a concept but as a lived experience. His words underscore the belief that the pursuit of liberty, though it may come with its sacrifices, is infinitely more rewarding than the heavy toll of living under repression. Today, let's honor his birthday by committing to the cause of liberty in our communities and around the world. May we all strive to create a society where freedom is the cornerstone and repression has no place. Share how you're promoting liberty and fighting repression in your actions. Together, we can build on the foundation that Du Bois and so many others have laid for us. #WEBDuBois #BlackHistoryMonth #Liberty #CivilRights
