Today’s WeeklyLT is about a sport that’s exploded in popularity that I encourage everyone to try while using Mineral-Only sunscreen outdoors (see last week's post). HEALTHSPAN is a topic I research & am deeply passionate about. MOVEMENT is a core tenant alongside being OUTDOORS, having SOCIAL CONNECTIONS & other tenants (nutrition, sleep, mental health, mental framing, etc.) that will be topics in the future. I started the SPORT OF PICKELBALL this past April & was hooked right away after discovering the following hat trick of benefits: 1. Aerobic & Anaerobic exercise that’s lower impact than running or high-impact aerobics & can help improve cardiovascular health alongside building build muscle mass 2. Is preferably played outdoors but can be just as fun indoors during the winter months 3. Can be played with friends & family across multi-generations & all skill levels It’s become my new favorite sport & happens to be far cheaper than golf! PICKELBALL IS a combination of tennis, badminton & table tennis. It’s played on a smaller court (badminton size) & with a slightly lower net than tennis. If you want more of a cardio work-out, you can play the singles game (full court) which feels similar to tennis & gives you an amazing workout. You can also play singles on half a court which is called skinny singles for less running. For lower-impact, you can play the doubles game which is the most popular version. Movement & physical activity are essential for maintaining healthspan, which is the amount of time that a person remains healthy and active as they age. Studies have shown that regular physical activity can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, & obesity while improving mental health & cognitive function. I’ve played against all age groups ranging from 5-15 (ie, my kids & their friends), 20-40, 40-60 & even 60-80. The best thing is I’ve been humbled my people in each of these age groups, especially this past weekend. There’s nothing to be ashamed of if you lose to young kids or grandmas. IT'S GENDER NEUTRAL & MULTI-GENERATIONAL.  Positioning & strategy often trump speed & power. It really is the perfect sport for healthspan. That said, there are plenty of injuries & you will feel it in your hips, lower back & many other parts – especially if playing singles. I use the same stretching routine as I used the many years I played ball hockey & basketball. The best part by far is the social connections, sportsmanship, camaraderie & teamwork (when playing doubles). I've yet to witness arguing, yelling, unsportsmanlike conduct & fighting I experienced from my hockey/basketball days. THE PERFECT MULTI-GENERATIONAL, GENDER-NEUTRAL SPORT. I encourage everyone, no matter your age, to go out & give it a shot. But stretch first, put on some mineral-only sunscreen & soak in the fresh air of being outside. Finally, for some pickleball laughs: https://lnkd.in/gCwEW3Bb
