Our hearts go out to those impacted by the devastating fires in Southern California. Ford has always shown up for communities, and we are committed to being there for the Los Angeles area now and over the long journey ahead. Today we announced two grants to support urgent critical relief needs, one to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and one to the California Community Foundation's Wildfire Recovery Fund. These contributions are on top of Ford Philanthropy’s long-term, ongoing support for the American Red Cross, Feeding America and Team Rubicon, organizations that are already providing shelter, food, and other on-the-ground support. We know that there is more we can and will do, but right now our focus is on helping to address immediate critical needs. That includes ensuring that firefighters, first responders and others risking their lives are cared for and supported. Please join us and our employees in supporting these efforts by contributing to: Team Rubicon: https://lnkd.in/dEbQ9aZZ California Community Foundation: https://lnkd.in/gPY-uGU3 American Red Cross: https://lnkd.in/dEbQ9aZZ Feeding America: https://lnkd.in/ekmewMge

A state-funded audit in Utah has brought to light potential ethical and financial mismanagement in the use of taxpayer dollars for anti-wolf advocacy efforts. Between 2015 and 2019, the Utah Legislature awarded $5.13 million to Big Game Forever, a nonprofit aiming to remove federal protections for gray wolves nationwide. The audit uncovered troubling conflicts of interest, revealing that a portion of these funds went to consulting firms owned by Big Game Forever’s founder, Ryan Benson, and his brother. With minimal documentation on fund usage, questions remain about whether Big Game Forever met its obligations and if taxpayer money was properly managed. Given Utah’s lack of a permanent gray wolf population, this use of public funds to work towards the national delisting of gray wolves from the Endangered Species Act raises pressing ethical concerns and a need for greater transparency. In 2023, the contract was transferred to Hunter Nation, a Kansas-based pro-hunting group. We'll continue to follow this ethically troubling case. #WolfWednesday #RelistWolves #ProtectAmericasWolves #Utah #Wolves #EndangeredSpeciesAct 📷 Josh Shandera, #CaptureCoexistence Contributor

This is a great article that shares some resources for those affected by the wildfires that took place in Altadena. My Uncle was among the many that lost their homes and it would be great for you all to share, support and raise awareness however you can. The road to rebuilding will be a long one but with community all is possible. 🙏 #wildfires #altadena #pasadena #resources #fires2025 https://lnkd.in/gPqPGXHJ

The best way for me to learn efficient methods for tracking and monitoring hazardous fuels removal/management projects was participating in the actual field work. It also helped me better gauge the amount of acres we could treat in a year, which improved my budgets for the next proposal. Mitigation can be significantly cheaper when done in-house, or locally. Furthermore, it’s a great way to help boost local workforce (especially in rural areas). I know I’ve said it 100 times, and I’ll keep saying it- help fire departments build wildland divisions (especially in rural communities) and empower communities to protect themselves. If you read a lot of the comprehensive strategies and NOFO’s, and consider the HUGE sustainability question in a lot of grants, you realize that is what they are really seeking. They don’t have the resources or capacity to support everyone for every disaster.
Spending transparency, sustained mitigation funding, technical assistance to communities, and better metrics of success: These four key principles guide Pew's work on #wildfire funding and budgeting alongside the Federation of American Scientists, Megafire Action, Taxpayers for Common Sense, BuildStrong America, and the Alliance for Wildfire Resilience. As wildfires continue to impact our communities, it's inspiring to see the dedication of first responders and organizations working tirelessly to protect lives, homes, and natural landscapes. Here's the latest update on containment efforts: -Firefighters are in a critical stage of their almost week-long battle against deadly Los Angeles blazes. Crews report progress, but “extremely critical” conditions could spread the fires as dangerous winds return this week, the National Weather Service warns. 💡 How You Can Make a Difference: Donate: Support organizations like Red Cross Wildfire Relief, Team Rubicon, or California Fire Foundation, which provide resources to affected families and support firefighters on the frontlines. Volunteer: Explore opportunities with groups like Habitat for Humanity, which assists with rebuilding efforts, or local shelters needing extra hands. Spread Awareness: Share updates and safety tips with your network to keep everyone informed and prepared.
