In recent years, #Sustainability has become a buzzword in all industries and aspects of life - from grocery to fashion to architecture. In reality, crafting genuinely environmentally responsible and responsive spaces requires a comprehensive, lifecycle-oriented approach. Truly sustainable design solutions are the ones that seamlessly integrate with the local ecosystem, ensuring that natural processes and biodiversity are preserved. For instance, the design for Auric Hall in Aurangabad maximises natural light and ventilation through passive solar strategies, incorporating a north-facing atrium and modular jaali to optimise daylight and minimise heat gain. Complementing passive strategies with active solutions like photovoltaic panels enhances energy efficiency, while rainwater harvesting and wastewater treatment systems further bolster sustainability. Material selection is equally critical; using locally sourced materials with low embodied energy, such as Compressed Earth Brick (CSEB) at Symbiosis University Hospital in Pune, significantly reduces energy consumption and operational costs. By embracing these principles, we can create truly sustainable environments that benefit both people and the planet, demonstrating that sustainability is as much about the process as it is about the product. #IMKArchitects #SustainableDesign #Architecture #PassiveStrategies #Materiality
