During my MPhil in Cambridge, I noticed a stark contrast in the approach to trash disposal compared to India. In Cambridge, one pays to dispose of recyclables and reusables, while in India, these materials can be sold, contributing to a robust recycling economy. I sold an old iron grill today for over ₹1,000 (more than $10), a transaction that underscores the thriving market for recyclable goods in India. I think the guy who purchased it (see the picture - taken with his consent) was happy with the transaction, especially because there was no haggling from me on the price 😊. At #Intellecap, #CAIF, since 2018, harnesses circular economy principles in its work. CAIF's work in Bengaluru leverages the city’s Dry Waste Collection Centres (DWCCs). These centers are operated by waste entrepreneurs and function as hyperlocal hubs that manage the collection, sorting, and sale of post-consumer textile waste, generating substantial revenue for waste pickers. This initiative is part of CAIF's broader commitment to advancing the circular economy, focusing on waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.
