Last week marked the groundbreaking for the very first high-speed rail in the U.S., a line set to connect Los Angeles and Las Vegas and a direct result of the bipartisan IIJA. This milestone is not only an example of government working with private businesses to unlock funding for projects that benefit the public but gives us a roadmap for building infrastructure that reduces emissions while creating jobs in the U.S. https://lnkd.in/eFbuQEfP

This is exactly the problem that AI predictors are very suited to. Controlling costs starts with an accurate expectation of what the cost is likely to be. We spend vast amounts on estimating, forecasting and reporting. We do this because the only thing we can change is the future. The better the forecast, the better the opportunity to make good decisions. That is not a perfect solution but augmenting current methods with AI helps is be better. And it’s not even hard to do. What an amazing time we live in!!
Costs in the railway do need close scrutiny and control but disappointed this has been snuck out on a Sunday and seemingly sentencing the UK’s rail network to congestion and stagnation for decades. #Shortsighted https://lnkd.in/ehHxRQiv

East West Railway Company scheme now up to £6bn committed budget with extra tunnels added to scope... The Bedford-Cambridge rail expansion project is set to enhance regional connectivity and economic growth, with an investment now reaching £6 billion. New stations are planned for Tempsford and Cambourne, alongside upgrades to Cambridge station, including additional tracks, a new platform, footbridges, and extended platforms. Environmental considerations have led to the addition of two tunnels to reduce impact, with a 700m tunnel near Haslingfield designed to protect local bat populations. The project will also implement green traction power with hybrid battery-electric trains and discontinuous electrification to cut emissions. Modifications to reduce embankment and viaduct height will further contain costs, with around £3 billion allocated directly to construction. Expected benefits include £6 billion in economic impact, the creation of 28,000 jobs, and support for new housing. The Transport Secretary calls this “transformational,” encouraging public input on a project that will reshape transport across the region. #rail #transportation #infrastructure #majorproject #eastwestrail

Thanks to the #Bipartisan #Infrastructure Law (BIL), over $1 billion in additional funding (NOFO) is now available to expand and modernize our rail network. This funding builds on the $8.2 billion in #grants announced last December, supporting projects like the first #highspeed rail in the U.S. and upgrades to key rail corridors. In total, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law dedicates $66 billion to rail projects, the largest investment since Amtrak’s creation. Key projects include: - High-speed rail in California’s Central Valley and Brightline West Trains connecting Las Vegas and Southern #California. - Upgrades to rail corridors in #Virginia, North Carolina, and the District of Columbia. - Capacity expansions at #Chicago Union Station. This investment addresses #infrastructure needs, reduces #congestion, and expands access to reliable #transportation, especially in #underserved regions. It’s a significant step towards reshaping America’s #railnetwork and laying the foundation for its future. The detailed FY22 Corridor Identification and Development Program Selections can be found on U.S. Department of Transportation website: (https://lnkd.in/eFMYzDrj) The NOFO is available on Federal Railroad Administration’s website and on www.Grants.gov (https://lnkd.in/e6HcjKyg). The Federal Railroad Administration has allocated $108 million to boost rural rail projects across the U.S., a crucial step in enhancing connectivity and supporting economic growth in less densely populated areas. This funding will help modernize rail infrastructure, improve safety, and ensure that rural communities remain integral parts of the national transportation network. Investments like these not only strengthen the rail sector but also create new opportunities for businesses and industries that rely on efficient, reliable transport. As the U.S. continues to invest in sustainable transport solutions, these projects play a key role in creating a more connected and resilient rail system. #RuralRail #InfrastructureInvestment #USRail #FRAFunding #SustainableTransport
