The second article I wanted to share this week is published by the American Journal of Occupational Therapy and focuses specifically on children experiencing homelessness. I am currently completing my capstone project at HEARTH - North Hills Affordable Housing which provides transitional housing for mothers facing homelessness due to domestic violence. This means that the children I work with at this site are also experiencing homelessness, making this article particularly relevant to my understanding of this population. One aspect I greatly appreciated about the article is its emphasis on advocacy. It outlines how homelessness impacts children and suggests potential solutions to improve their lives from the perspective of occupational therapy. What are your thoughts on this article? Have you implemented any of the advocacy solutions mentioned? If so, what were the results? What other ideas do you have? #homelessness, #occupationaltherapy, AOTA, #ACEs

🏠 #OTWeek24 Spotlight: Bridging Understanding in Home Adaptations Occupational Therapists play a vital role in the Disabled Facilities Grant process, translating complex needs into practical home adaptation recommendations. They must clearly articulate why specific adaptations are both necessary and appropriate. To make this easier for OTs, the Foundations - National Body for Home Improvement Agencies team has integrated the Person-Environment-Occupation (PEO) model into Part 2b of the DFG Making Tool https://lnkd.in/eMW8Ppmt This framework helps OTs better communicate their professional reasoning and strengthens the case for adaptations that truly make a difference in people's lives. #OTweek2024
