Today is World Cancer Day and this year's theme is “Close the Care Gap”. Despite the incredible progress being made in areas of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research, clinical trials and compassionate care, many Australians still face barriers to equitable care - these include issues such as income, education, geographical location and discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability and lifestyle. Big gratitude and recognition to our clients who are working hard to address these barriers in order to ensure equitable models of care for all Australians. #worldcancerday #closethecancergap #WorldCancerDay #CloseTheCancerGap #CancerAwareness #CancerPrevention #CancerResearch #CancerTreatment #CancerSupport #TogetherAgainstCancer #cancerfreefuture

Empowering girls and women is not just a slogan; it's a vital call to action that demands our immediate attention. We all understand the importance, and now, more than ever, it's time to translate awareness into tangible progress. In particular, for those living with HIV, the challenges they face are often compounded by stigma and discrimination. It's time to break down these barriers and pave the way for a more inclusive and supportive society. Ending violence against women and girls is not just a goal; it's a necessity. By empowering them, we are not only uplifting individuals but also building stronger, more resilient communities. Let's commit to taking concrete steps towards empowerment, creating spaces where every girl and woman can thrive and contribute their full potential. Together, we can make a difference. #EmpowerWomen #EndViolence #BreakTheStigma

The World Health Organization (WHO) is developing a guideline on the health of trans and gender-diverse people, and they’ve extended the deadline for providing feedback. The guidelines in the works are hoping to address health challenges that negatively impact the rights of trans and gender-diverse people in accessing fair, quality health services across the globe, which can undermine their quality of life and life expectancy. The guidelines are set to focus on five key areas. This includes - the provision of gender-affirming care, - health worker education and training for the provision of gender-inclusive care, - provision of health care for trans and gender-diverse people who have suffered interpersonal violence, - health policies that support gender-inclusive care, - and the legal recognition of self-determined gender identity for adults. Please participate and provide your feedback.
You can still give feedback to WHO on health of trans and gender-diverse people

June is #PrideMonth. 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️ Mounting evidence indicates that sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations have less access to #healthcare and higher burdens of certain diseases, such as #depression, #cancer, and #HIV #AIDS. Harvard Medical School reports these inequities are driven by social determinants of health (#SDoH), such as income, ethnicity, insurance status, education, etc. There is more to be done to promote health among SGM, such as: ✅ Making clinical environments more inclusive ✅ Ensuring that all clinicians receive adequate LGBT-related training ✅ Increasing access to practitioners with expertise in sexual minority healthcare 📍 More from Harvard Medical School: https://hubs.ly/Q02z_fjL0 📍 View our poster on The Association Between Race, SDoH, and Treatment for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): https://hubs.ly/Q02z_dJr0

Exploring the Impact of Racial Discrimination on Youth Health 🧠⚕️ #RacialDiscrimination significantly influences health outcomes at all life stages, with #children and #adolescents being particularly vulnerable. A recent study highlights strong associations between racial discrimination and #MentalHealth issues, NCD risk behaviors, and impacts on sexual and reproductive health in youth. 📈 Structural issues demand structural solutions, action, commitment and responsibility at every level. This includes anti-racist bias training, the adoption of an anti-racist curriculum, and the collection of more and higher equality data, dis-aggregated by indicators on multiple grounds of discrimination. 🤝 While efforts at the EU- and international- levels are essential, impactful change often starts at the grassroots level. Strengthening social participation and giving #leadership roles to racialised and marginalised communities are crucial steps which should inform legislative initiatives to combat systemic issues. ❗️Racial discrimination is a fundamental determinant of health, and public health has a responsibility to actively confront and challenge these systemic issues.
