This clip higlights why we need to urgently level the national Urban Green (and supporting blue) Infrastructure policy playing field. Recent joint submissions from ASBEC, AILA, AIA, PIA, AGIN, AIH, Arb Aust and PLA - in response to Canberra's draft 'National Urban Policy'; highlighted the need for the Federal Govt to develop a national UGI strategy and co-invest in this critical community infrastructure - as Australian settlements become denser and hotter. A National UGI Roundtable is currently being formed - watch this green+blue+grey sector space.

If invited you will receive pre application advice and then be ready to apply in summer of 2025 when the online portal on rural payments opens So it is good news that commons are specifically mentioned as we hope that the rural payments computer system will be enabled to accept applications from common land. There is lots of new information coming out about Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier - lots to digest and reflect on and lots of questions. Below are some links relevant to common land. It seems a Moorland Common might be eligible for: CUP3, plus CUP 8 or 9 or 10, plus CUP 11, or 12 or 13 or 14, plus a cattle supplement plus the commons supplement (£7/ha): So that would be 🐏 £115/ha for a common at max of 0.16 LU/ha with no off wintering and no cattle and in various combinations up to: 🐮 £199/ha for a common that is grazed at a maximum of 0.4LU/ha with only cattle and only for 4 months of the year. All agreements will be subject to Natural England recommendations and stocking calendars set by NE. There are concerns that the maximum stocking of 0.16 LU/ha is too low for some moorland areas, especially in the South West where moorland is much lower and in rotational grazing you might want shorter bursts of more intense grazing, e.g. Dartmoor where high concentration of cattle is needed to bash Molina. From the story below: "In 2019, the commission found that 1,125 owners, as well as bodies such as Forestry and Land Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland, owned 70% of rural Scotland, covering more than 4.1m hectares of countryside. Within that, 1.7m hectares was owned by 87 people. The new powers, set out in the land reform (Scotland) bill, are expected to affect only a small number – between five and 15 – of the hundreds of rural properties put up for sale in Scotland each year. The Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) released April rural data, shows that overall, 235 farm sales in the three months ended April 2024, compared to 223 farm sales for the three months ended March 2024 (+5.4%), and 255 farm sales for the three months ended April 2023 (-7.8%).
