Academic Leader – Teaching Effectiveness & Student Succes; Teaching Innovations; SAS Certified, Data Analysis
📢 Thrilled to Share My Experience on the SEEC Panel! Just had an incredible time participating in the SEEC panel discussion on "Gatekeeper Insights: Tips for Landing a Job or Internship." It was an enlightening session packed with invaluable advice from recruiters who play a pivotal role in shaping the early careers of young professionals. The diversity of panelists, representing both public and private sectors, added a rich depth to the conversation, especially for those directly involved with internship applicants. Their insights were beneficial and essential for students gearing up to step into the professional world. I was honored to contribute to this panel, focusing on a topic close to my heart – networking skills for students. It's not just about making connections; it's about cultivating them into long-term mentoring relationships that can guide and support students throughout their careers. The blend of perspectives provided a comprehensive guide for students and recent graduates. Whether it's crafting a standout application, acing an interview, or building a network that lasts, the knowledge shared was truly invaluable. A huge thank you to all the panelists Jamelia Smith and Anthony Spatola, Philip Vinson for moderating, Megan H., and students and attendees for a dynamic and engaging session. The interaction and eagerness to learn from both sides were truly inspiring. #SEECPanel #CareerDevelopment #InternshipTips #NetworkingSkills #Mentorship #ProfessionalGrowth #GTEconomics #ThisIsGTLiberalArts #StudentEngagement #StudentSuccess
Last night's panel was a great success! Thanks to Jamelia Smith, Anthony Spatola, and Aselia Urmanbetova, PhD for your insights, and Philip Vinson for doing a fabulous job moderating! The rich conversation included tips about resume building, how to find the right job fit, and making the most of your early career. Make sure to keep an eye out for future events from the Southeastern Economics Collaborative (SEEC).

Director at Apex Talent | Inclusive Recruitment with Innovation & Insight: Sales, SaaS, Digital Marketing, & Creative | Co-Founder at noobee | MSc Physics | Champion for Neuroinclusion, Social Mobility & DEI
Just wanted to leave a comment commending all of the efforts of The 93% Club. I've been looking for an organisation to champion social mobility and recognise the class gap for years. Growing up as a mixed raced person in one of the worst boroughs in London for knife crime, (in a school with a 27% GCSE pass rate) with strong working class roots, whilst also being the 1st of my family to go to university, I've always felt I was an outsider, classless even. Not posh or connected enough for one group, and a 'nerd' to the other. No one, but for a few good friends, saw me for ME. Or when I was accepted I was met with exceptions and caveats. It's not everyone's job to like you, and seeking familiarity in your peer group is a necessary part of being human. In a work and educational setting, however, we need to create an ecosystem where all intersectionalities, especially class and socio-economic, are considered. Class and socio-economic factors are often overlooked under the umbrella of DEI but are prevalent enough to command their own attention. From an economic standpoint, there has never been a greater need for giving (less giving and more getting out of the way of) people from underprivileged backgrounds a seat at the table. The untapped potential is an immeasurable waste! No call to action, just a point worth making.
