Japan is the world’s second-biggest buyer of liquified natural gas (LNG), so the impacts LNG facilities have on local communities puts a significant responsibility on Japan’s shoulders. Their increasing demands for U.S. LNG exports is causing immense harm to frontline communities along the Gulf Coast. From Freeport, Texas to Lake Charles, Louisiana, residents are suffering from increased rates of #asthma, #cancer, and other health issues due to pollution from LNG plants. Eminent domain has stripped land from historically marginalized neighborhoods, leaving empty plots where homes and businesses once stood. We’re thrilled that The Japan Times published this important article about the devastating community & #climate impacts Japan’s US LNG investments are fueling. Please READ & SHARE. https://t.ly/1bRrY #StopLNG

BIG NEWS 🎉 Insurance company Chubb has dropped Rio Grande LNG, a proposed methane gas project that would threaten local communities and violate the sacred sites of the Carrizo/Comecrudo Tribe of Texas. This comes after months of pushback from community organizers and climate activists. “When you do the due diligence and understand Indigenous rights, this project is a no-go. Investors and major banks have dropped Rio Grande LNG, and now insurers are following suit because the claims of the fossil fuel companies can’t be trusted" –Juan Mancias, chair of the Carrizo/Comecrudo Tribe of Texas. . Since June 10, the Summer of Heat on Wall Street campaign has been peacefully protesting at Citibank (Banamex USA) HQ to shine a light on the urgent need for climate action. Now, Citi is targeting campaign leaders with repressive tactics. These efforts are deeply concerning, and they're a direct attack on our right to advocate for a sustainable future. We stand in solidarity with all activists demanding a transition from toxic fossil fuels to a climate-safe future. The escalating climate crisis must be addressed with immediate and transformative change. #SummerOfHeat #Divest
