💼 Ericsson published a blog post today titled "Boosting indoor connectivity to create the office of the future". In the post, Ericsson discusses the importance of indoor connectivity for the future of work and the challenges that need to be addressed to improve indoor connectivity. 🌐 Ericsson discusses the challenges that need to be addressed to improve indoor connectivity. These challenges include: 1. The increasing number of devices connecting to the network: The number of devices connecting to the network is increasing rapidly, as more and more people use smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other devices for work and personal use. This increased traffic is putting a strain on indoor networks. 2. The need for high-speed, reliable connectivity: Users expect high-speed, reliable connectivity, regardless of whether they are working in the office, at home, or in a coffee shop. This can be difficult to achieve in indoor environments, as walls, floors, and other obstacles can block or attenuate the signal. 3. The need for security and privacy: As more and more sensitive data is being transmitted over the network, it is important to ensure that the network is secure and that user privacy is protected. This can be challenging in indoor environments, as there are often many different users and devices on the same network. 🌐Ericsson concludes the post by discussing some of the ways that indoor connectivity can be improved. These include: 1. Using 5G: 5G can provide the high-speed, reliable connectivity that is needed for the office of the future. 5G networks are also more secure and private than previous generations of mobile networks. 2. Using distributed antenna systems (DAS): DAS is a technology that can be used to improve indoor connectivity by distributing antennas throughout the building. This can help to eliminate signal dead zones and provide more even coverage. 3. Using indoor small cells: Indoor small cells are small, low-power base stations that can be used to improve indoor connectivity. Indoor small cells can be deployed in areas where coverage is poor or where there is a lot of traffic. SAVE THE DATE: Indoor Wireless workshop, January 11th, Central London I’m delighted to announce that I will be running the first public event for my new Indoor Wireless project. This will not be a PPT-led conference, but a true interactive session, with a maximum of 30 attendees and a lot of time for networking, group discussion and collaboration. This is part of a wider initiative I am focusing on in 2024. I want to raise the profile of all types of in-building wireless connectivity, especially to policymakers and regulators. It's an area that's hugely important, but often overlooked by governments, telcos and other stakeholders. The initiative aims to foster understanding and cooperation between groups representing different technologies, industry roles and business models. And to work on action and policy efforts that reflect the 80%+ of wireless value generated indoors. The underlying story spans a huge range of topics: - Why indoor wireless is hard, especially for public 5G - Indoor wireless use-cases, applications, devices and verticals - Aligning MNOs, fixed telcos, infracos, property owners, investors, enterprise IT & others - The importance of Wi-Fi for homes, offices and public venues, for both standalone use and federated with cellular networks for “offload” - Private 4G/5G cellular for indoor/campus use, at industrial sites, public buildings and workplaces - Neutral host approaches, with various technical architectures and business models, including public/private 5G hybrids - Niche wireless for IoT, public safety, audiovisual and other applications - The roles of different frequency bands & #spectrumsharing models - What an indoor-primary view of 6G could look like, and how to get there - How governments and regulators could/should focus on indoor wireless, with spectrum rules, guidance, competition rules, R&D funding, measurement and more. - What sustainability and energy efficiency means for indoor wireless - Vendor landscape & shifts with OpenRAN, OpenWiFi & related themes More details on the agenda and a website/registration page will come soon. But mark your diaries – and please contact me directly to reserve a space or discuss fees. It will be run under the Chatham House rule, so people will hopefully be honest and candid. Because of that, it will not be streamed or recorded. It will be jointly facilitated by myself, plus friend and colleague Andrew Collinson. If you can't make it to London for January 11th, then I'm hoping to run similar exercises elsewhere later next year. And if you'd like a private or customised session covering similar, please let me know. EDIT: Registration now live at https://lnkd.in/edaiUE2h 15% discount with code: Earlybird #5G #6G #wifi #6GHz #neutralhost #wireless #mobile #smallcells #indoorwireless
