Behind the Scenes of Canada's Dental Care Plan: Dentists' Perspectives As the potential launch date for the federal government's affordable dental care plan approaches, concerns arise among dentists in Alberta. The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), born from a political agreement in 2022, targets low and middle-income individuals lacking private insurance. While aiming to broaden access, some practitioners, like Alberta Dental Association President Dr. Jenny Doerksen, question its efficacy, foreseeing increased barriers and administrative complexities. Seniors are the initial beneficiaries, yet misconceptions linger regarding costs and coverage. Contrary to assumptions, the program involves co-payments, ranging up to 60 percent for certain income brackets. Moreover, the voluntary nature of the plan raises fears of limited provider participation, potentially compromising patient autonomy and care continuity. Despite reservations, some, like Smiles Dental director Amanda Peterson, view the initiative positively, anticipating increased patient engagement. However, with over 1.6 million Canadians registered, the program's success hinges on addressing dentists' concerns and ensuring seamless implementation. #dentistry #dentist #dentists #canada #ontario https://lnkd.in/gXnzkwEK

Dental Clinic - 'Sorry, we are not taking any new NHS patients at the moment.' This is something we have all heard in the past 2 years or know someone who has. It's not just about having an NHS dentist but the time to receive treatment. Dental Clinic - 'You can wait 4 weeks for treatment or if you go private, we can do it in 2 days.' More people are required to go via the private route for dental treatment and it's not cheap. Want to offer a great employee benefit that can assist your staff with their dental problems..... We can offer Health Cash Plans to allow staff to claim back costs for NHS or private treatment from just £1 a week per employee... Yes £1! We can also discuss company dental plans from Bupa, Denplan or Unum! Want to know more.... Please feel free to contact me. #dentalcare #employeebenefits #wellbeingatwork

The battleground for the General Election is shaping up in terms of healthcare, and in particular, access to services. Pharmacy was in the news last week with the roll-out of Pharmacy First. Now, it is dentistry's turn. The Government has outlined the following: ⭕ a ringfence for ICBs to support the dental recovery plan. Contrary to the raids on dental budgets in recent years to support other priorities 💷 new patient payments outlined of between £15 and £50 dependant on treatment options - as part of a £200m in new funding 💸 £20,000 "golden hello" payments to dentists setting up practice poor access areas The British Dental Association told the BBC the plan is just "rearranging the deckchairs." 👎 four in five dentists in England are not taking on new patients and nearly three quarters are not accepting children according to analysis Full plan hasn't been published but the measures contained in it were inadvertently published early on the same day there were extraordinary scenes in Bristol with thousands queueing for an appointment to a new NHS dentist that had set up in the area. Surely in 2024 it shouldn't be harder booking a dentist appointment than buying a Taylor Swift concert ticket?! Three days of enormous queues now with police in attendance to supervise and avoid disorder! My Experience With The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) as of May 18, 2024 : Please always remember this is my personal experience . 1. The plan has been extremely easy to implement . 2. Patients that qualify are enjoying the benefits of the plan 4. It is not an Admin . burden 5. Sunlife has set up the Electonic form in which it is easy to understand . How do you implement this in your office , so communication is clear and precise to the plan holder: 1. Each eligible client receives a letter from Sunlife , indicating , that the client will need to pay the difference as applicable . 2. We ask the client to bring the letter to the office at time of appt . 3. You can get your client to sign the letter or scan it into your system , in which both parties are clear that there could be a charge as stated in the letter . This is good communication between you and client . 4. Once you have determined treatment , it is very simple and easy to determine copay , or balance billing ( the difference between our fee guide and the govt grid ) . Client agrees , no issues . In my experience, patients are happy to pay the difference as they are getting a benefit from the govt . 5. If a patient gets to the point , where they do not understand the plan , tell them to call the number on their letter , matter of fact any issues arise , client calls the contact number . This is not our responsibility . I have attached a copy of the letter that the client receives from Sunlife . I know , a lot of my colleagues , are waiting for there association or CDA approval . I also read all the info that the CDA , and association released , and they have done a wonderful job in representing us . But like all good business people , take the information , and decide for yourself on implementation . This also includes examining the letter clients recieve from sunlife , and giving the plan a test run . Worst case scenario you can always opt or not participate . So far , no complaints , and the efficiency of this process has been good .

Why Hiring Dental Hygienists Is Crucial for Your Practice – And How Proxi Dental Staffing Can Help The dental hygienist shortage is real, and it’s affecting practices everywhere. According to the American Dental Association, fewer than half of the hygienists who left the workforce during COVID-19 have returned. Combine that with early retirements and reduced enrollment in dental hygiene programs, and we’re facing a workforce gap that’s impacting patient care and practice efficiency. With 40% of dental practices struggling to fill vacant hygienist positions, it’s never been more important to address the shortage. Dental hygienists are the backbone of patient care—responsible for cleanings, preventive care, patient education, and supporting dentists in complex procedures. Without them, appointment wait times increase, and dentists shoulder additional responsibilities, leading to potential burnout. At Proxi Dental Staffing, we understand the challenges dental practices are facing in finding and retaining top hygienist talent. We help bridge that gap with customized staffing solutions. From temporary hygienists to full-time placements, we have the resources to ensure your practice remains fully staffed and patient care isn’t compromised. If your practice is feeling the strain of the hygienist shortage, let Proxi Dental Staffing be your partner in finding the qualified talent you need. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help keep your practice running smoothly. www.proxidocs.com #DentalStaffing #DentalHygienistShortage #ProxiDentalStaffing #PatientCare #DentalHygienistJobs #Dentistry #StaffingSolutions
