Cricket. It doesn't resemble the game that was first played in 1880s. In fact, the games played in the recent T20 world cup are nothing like the games played in the inaugural T20 world cup of 2007. Both tournaments were won by India. If Indians stop playing cricket, Indian broadcasters & corporate houses stop supporting or promoting cricket, the game will suffer a huge setback. Many countries where cricket has spread to in recent years may actually stop playing. For the game to prosper, ICC has to keep reinventing the game, adding new rules, new ways of keeping the crowds coming, keeping the fans engaged. Other forms of "entertainment" are emerging and may soon wean fans away from cricket. Please note that I use "entertainment," not sport as competition. Because the success of IPL is because the game of cricket has been nicely packaged as entertainment and new attractions are added with each edition. It is this evolution that will ensure that the game is alive and kicking not just in India but in other parts of the world, come the year 2040. I know the powers that be at ICC are more aware and seize of the situation than I can ever be. All the best to them. Keep this game alive; its fun, and it helps a lot of people make a good living. #sports #sportsmarketing #cricket #t20worldcup2024 #T20Cricket #t20cwc2024 #teamindia #BCCI #IPL #ICC

Great post! Raj Shekhar It's true that cricket needs to adapt to stay relevant. Do you think there's a way to balance the excitement of new formats with the traditions of the original game?
