The chai wala story Our Prime minister is proud of being a chai wala. There is this gossip that chai wala makes so much money. I can also make money. The power of Math is used one cup => 10 Rupees how many cups => atleast 1000 cups => 10 * 1000 => 10000 Rupees from chai. Per cup cost => without calculation 3-4 rupees for every 1000 cups he is making a profit of 6 thousand rupees. But what about biscuits and rusk and all. There is good profit in those as well. In all this calculation we miss out on the fact that the chai wala is standing for double shifts (12-16) hours. Who will account for the physical labor and sacrifices the chai wala do

I frequently write on this platform regarding the need for securing our research, and ensuring our technological advantage does not end up in the hands of those who could wish us ill. But this can create a tension with one of the most fundamental of protections for academics, the freedom to pursue and debate unwelcome, controversial, or risky ideas. As long as such ideas do not incite hatred or infringe the legitimate legal rights of another, they should be voiced. Equally, stifling protests against such presentations and debates should be undertaken sparingly, if at all. Only by viewing both sides of an argument - and the evidence base for each - can we be said to be making the right decision on wicked problems that plague the world.
