Being in the laundry and drycleaning industry for over 5 years, I can easily relate it to what I studied in university. Forget it, if you want to be successful in your laundry business, you must have a little bit of chemistry background and if you dont have, employ someone that can do it foryou. This will make it easier for you to be able to apply the right chemicals to different stains that come with dirty clothe, because most of the chemicals used for cleaning originated from chemistry either accidentally or by hypothesis e.g. oil or grease stain can be dissolved in drycleaning fluld most known as perchloroethylene(perclon Cl2C=CCl2, which dissolved fat, grease, waxes, and oil in fabric without harming fibre, also caustic soda NaoH(an inorganic compound, a frequent ingredients in cleaning product, an alkali salt, which regulate PH levels in detergent, making them more effective in removing dirt and stains) just to mention few out of the cleaning agent we use in laundry. Also in laundry, we deal with colour sorting, where like colours go with each other to avoid colour run on, also water treatment is one of the key objectives of laundry firm(This is where we will work with different micro meters of filters , UV light and many more). In conclusion your current place of work might not be related to what you studied in higher institutions but you must be able to applied your knowledge/skills to your work. Not everyone will do a white collar job, take up the dirty job you see today and bring it the collar in you. This explains the reason i took up the job 5 years ago when white collar job wasn't available , today i can really say am proud of the work.
