Employment is a critical issue that continues to challenge the economic landscape of India. Being one of the most populous countries with a diverse and dynamic workforce, fluctuations in employment have high implications for the growth & development of the country.
> More than 38% of IIT graduates are unemployed (23-24)
> Unemployment rate is at its highest in 15 years at 9%
> Over 40% of university graduates are unemployed
Though India is generating more jobs per year than ever (46.6 million in 23-24), the number of students graduating and finding jobs are far higher than 46 million. By the year 2025, the average age of an Indian citizen will be 25 years, which puts the country in its prime for the workforce. Yesterday's incident at Lords Plaza Hotel in Ankleshwar, Gujarat, where hundreds gathered for just 10 job openings, leading to a steel railing collapse and several injuries, has sparked significant concern. While this incident undoubtedly underscores the severe unemployment issues, it raises important questions about companies' interview preparedness.
With 1,800 people showing up for the interview, the overwhelming crowd highlighted the desperation for jobs and the high demand for limited opportunities. This situation has been politicized, However, beyond the political discourse, this incident calls for a deeper look into the hiring strategies employed by companies.
In today's digital age, we have numerous HR Tech tools available that can efficiently parse and screen profiles and conduct online assessments as the first step of the interview process. Utilizing these tools can help shortlist the right candidates and avoid the chaos of mass walk-ins.
"𝙀𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙨𝙤 𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙖 𝙨𝙖𝙛𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙡𝙮 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨."
Companies need to reassess their hiring strategies to prevent such incidents. Some might argue about budget constraints, but it's worth noting that many HR Tech startups offer free online assessment tools to build their credibility and brand. As HR professionals, it is imperative that we leverage these tools effectively.
This incident is a stark reminder that we must adopt more strategic and technology-driven approaches to hiring. By doing so, we can ensure a smoother, safer, and more efficient recruitment process for all involved.

4 Core Problems Fueling Unemployment in tier 2 Towns
At our Career Centre in #Kanpur, we are continually uncovering layers of challenges faced by job seekers, which is helping us improve our core solutions. Here are the key issues we've noticed:
A- Lack of Skill Awareness – Many visitors are unaware of the skills required for their desired job roles. For example, someone may want a back-office job but only have basic computer skills, slow typing speed, and little software knowledge.
B- Interview Etiquette – We often see candidates show up in slippers or shorts, and sometimes chewing gum or gutkha. Many job seekers lack basic interview etiquette, which is a major reason they struggle to secure jobs.
C- Lack of Seriousness – Job seekers frequently skip scheduled interviews or try to postpone them. This is often due to a lack of confidence or poor interview preparation.
D- Mismatch with Job Market – There's often a disconnect between job seekers’ expectations and the reality of the job market. We see people turning down jobs over a ₹1,000 salary difference, only to remain unemployed for months.
With our tech-driven approach and profile evaluation techniques, we are addressing these issues and seeing positive outcomes. In upcoming posts, I’ll be sharing some of these success stories.

Gujarat in India is doing well off. But, it too, does not create enough jobs. 1,800 people applying for 10 jobs! Not just applying. Actually standing outside

" Railing Collapses As 1,800 Aspirants Turn Up For 10 Jobs In Gujarat
Hundreds gathered, jostling to make their way inside the venue and the crowd was so dense that it pushed against a steel railing hard enough to make it give way, taking several people down with it. All this was to get inside and give an interview for a grand total of 10 jobs at a private company in Gujarat's Bharuch."
Here is the response of the Member of Parliament from the place. Just shifting the blame aound.
"The MP from Bharuch, Mansukh Vasava, who is from the BJP, said the district is a mini India and people from all over the country go there to live and work.
Blaming the company for the incident, he said in Hindi, "They were filling up only 10 vacancies and should have specified the criteria properly instead of just holding an open interview. At some level, the incident occurred because of the company. We are worried about it and steps are being taken to ensure such incidents don't happen again."
