Snail kite (Rostrhamus socialibis) The highly specialized Snail Kite flies on broad wings over tropical wetlands as it hunts large freshwater snails. These handsome gray-and-black raptors have a delicate, strongly curved bill that fits inside the snail shells to pull out the juicy prey inside. Unlike most other raptors, Snail Kites nest in colonies and roost communally, sometimes among other waterbirds such as herons and Anhingas. They are common in Central and South America. In Suriname, it is a very common bird of prey.

Discover the iconic Wild Mustangs, symbols of freedom and history. Learn about these majestic wild horses in this captivating video. #WildMustang #horse Have you ever thought about the wild mustangs galloping across the American West? These stunning creatures are more than just beautiful; they’re a living piece of history. Brought over by Spanish explorers in the 16th century, these horses were originally domesticated in Europe. But as they roamed free, some escaped or were released, and that’s when the magic happened. They adapted to the vast plains and rugged terrain, forming herds that became a vital part of the landscape. Native American tribes quickly recognized their value, using them for hunting, transportation, and even warfare. Imagine the power of those mustangs, running wild and free, embodying the spirit of the West! Over time, their population exploded, and today, they’re considered feral horses—descendants of those original domesticated stock, thriving in the wild. They symbolize freedom, resilience, and the untamed heart of America. Isn’t it incredible how they’ve become such an iconic part of our heritage?

Transparency and accountability in fisheries management are indeed closely tied to the level of coverage provided by fisheries observers (APOCM Observación Científica Marina Elizabeth M. APOAM - OBSERVADORES DO AMBIENTE MARINHO Bubba Cook Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) EM4Fish Fisheries observers play a critical role in monitoring and collecting data on fishing activities, compliance with regulations, and interactions with marine ecosystems. Here are a few key points on how their coverage impacts transparency and accountability: 1. Data Collection: Observers gather essential data on catch volumes, bycatch, and the overall health of fish stocks. This information is vital for making informed management decisions and ensuring sustainable practices. 2. Regulatory Compliance: The presence of observers helps ensure that fishers adhere to established regulations, such as catch limits and gear restrictions. This oversight is crucial for maintaining fairness within the fishing industry. 3. Independent Verification: Observers act as independent parties who can validate reports from fishermen and companies, as well from any electronic monitoring equipment installed aboard. This reduces the risk of fraudulent reporting and helps maintain the integrity of fisheries management systems. 4. Public Trust: Increased observer coverage can enhance public awareness and trust in fisheries management practices. Transparency in how fisheries are monitored and regulated can lead to greater support from stakeholders, including consumers and conservation groups. 5. Adaptation and Improvement: Monitoring by observers allows for ongoing assessment of fisheries practices and can lead to the identification of problems or inefficiencies. The insights gained can drive improvements in fisheries management and sustainability efforts. 6. Policy Development: Comprehensive data collection and monitoring can inform policymakers, leading to more effective regulations that align with ecological and economic goals. In summary, increasing the level of coverage by fisheries observers directly contributes to transparency and accountability in fisheries, which are essential for sustainable management and the protection of marine resources. #fisheries #fisheriesobservers #transparency #accountability #esg #sdg14 #sustainability #ocean #electronicmonitoring #EM #marineresources #marinebiology #compliance #monitoring
