Batch-to-batch variability in #powder compositions used for #binder #jet #additive #manufacturing (BJAM) can significantly hinder the determination of an 'ideal' #sintering window for a specific alloy. To address this challenge, computational thermodynamic tools like #CALPHAD can be leveraged, particularly for BJAM, as the process occurs under near-equilibrium conditions. In our recently published #manuscript in Integrating Materials and Manufacturing Innovation, my colleague Peeyush Nandwana and I utilized high throughput CALPHAD in conjunction with #data #analytics tools to rapidly predict the sintering window for various powder compositions of the alloy. We believe that this will enable lightweight models that can be used by industry to develop sintering windows in an accelerated manner. Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) have a broad range of applications, but the massive number of variables involved in designing, developing, and deploying these materials has restrained their widespread use.
