The bread and butter 🍞 - how can #PedIR improve care for children with cancer? Apart from cutting edge procedures, having a dedicated #PIR service can shorten waiting time for biopsy and start treatment earlier. At HK Children's Hospital, children with suspected cancer diagnosis get imaging, biopsy, long term line insertion and other necessary procedures done in the same MAC/GA session. In Belgium alone, approximately 𝟯𝟱𝟬 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 (ages 0-14) and 𝟭𝟴𝟬 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 (ages 15-19) receive this life-altering diagnosis annually. The encouraging news is that many of these children go on to become long-term survivors, with a 10-year survival rate of 𝟴𝟳%. Tomorrow, World Health Organization reminds us about #cancer. To honor that word that changed me forever, this link combines snippets from three dreams come true, all part of "Staging Breast Cancer Trilogy." The illness still challenges and hurts us disregarding our wealth, mother tongue, gender, and literally anything. Cancer does not care about all this. However, from personal experience, I have learned that I need to listen to as many people's stories as they become available, I need to tame my fears, and I need to share with others how writing/journaling/speaking remains a constant in being together. I have been blessed to have many exceptional and generous energies around me. Please share this post widely. As you will notice, there are imperfections. There are vulnerabilities. But, there is an openness to share these imperfections and vulnerabilities because they speak about our shifting embodied phases. The body remains a relentless storyteller.
