Asturias sets a new all-time record 💚 The Principality's airport has once again beaten its 2023 records, which were already the highest in its history. In the year to date, the infrastructure has registered 7.6% more passengers. Little by little, we must continue to create a solid base to consolidate the air routes and continue to increase the network of destinations, which will be extended from December with the launch of a new route with the city of Castellón, operated by Volotea. Day 6 – The Network of KM Malta Airlines On this 6th day before our inaugural flight, KM640, to Catania on 31 March, we will explain our network strategy. A commercially efficient network is key to the financial sustainability of any airline. Together with industry-leading experts at SABRE Consulting, we have undertaken an extensive mapping exercise to design a new route network that is the most commercially efficient network to connect Malta to Europe. SABRE’s output proposed a new network using a ‘clean-sheet’ approach, resulting in enhanced territorial connectivity between the Maltese Islands and Europe Although the total number of routes has been reduced from 23 to 17, we have added increased frequencies on some of our core and mature routes to improve our product offering and to maximize aircraft utilization to 12.03 hours per aircraft per day. We have simultaneously increased the number of Business Class seats to 36 with a sales focus to maximize the load factor in this class. We will fly to 17 airports in 15 key Western European cities and attach to the bigger airlines through codeshare agreements and interline partnerships. These are important passenger and cargo hubs that provide excellent connectivity across the globe. With Malta’s size and population making long-haul routes unprofitable and unsustainable in the long run, it is crucial to rely on indirect connectivity from such airports as a gateway to the rest of the world. Wow! What a bold (and calculated) move, Wizz Air. This makes me feel like we are living in the future - being able to almost “subscribe” to your favourite services, including air travel. As a frequent and passionate traveler myself, I’d definitely subscribe if it was one of the airlines I use most often. Quick calculation from my trips last year: - total return trips: 6 - average trip cost: €150 - total spent: ca €900 - cost if it was via “All You Can Fly”: €499 + 6 * €10 (flat booking fee) = €559 - total saved: €341. Asturias WorldWide! ❤️ The airport of the Principality of Asturias continues to increase international passengers with triple-digit growth in Portugal, double-digit growth in the United Kingdom, Italy and France. The fall in the Netherlands is due to a drop in May where the route had fewer operations due to the calendar effect. And the reduction in Belgium is gradually being offset, with a 7.1% increase in May compared to the same month in 2023 and a 4.4 percentage point increase in occupancy to 92.3%. Lufthansa increased its passengers by 24% in Asturias in May and so far this year, the increase is over 50%. Vueling increases passenger/flight ratio from 153.2 to 159 pax/flight. Volotea increased its passengers by 13.4% and raised its passenger/flight ratio from 137.5 to 144, comfortably exceeding 90% average occupancy. The one that is beginning to suffer is the air route with Madrid, which has lost more than 16% and it should be remembered that on 21 May the High Speed Railway S106 model called "AVRIL" came into operation with more than 500 seats on each service, doubling the offer that existed before, and this may be generating a transfer of passengers.
