When we founded Zaic Design, we had the goal of building a community of creative people who absolutely love what they do. We imagined that if we could gather together a group of people who enjoy the process of creation for its own sake, they would be people we would enjoy working with every day. This theory has paid off in spades. The 3D rendering of a diamond ring shown below is the physical manifestation of love for one's artform. In order to create this rendering, the artist needed to: 1. Study gemstone cutting, to understand which style of diamond cut would be the most satisfying as a rendering demonstration. They selected the "Super Ideal Cut", located specifications for this cut on the GIA website, and modeled a dimensionally perfect example. 2. Next they studied the attributes of Brilliance, Fire and Sparkle in order to set up a virtual lighting studio that would maximize these visual qualities. 3. Lastly, they fine-tuned an out-of-distribution experimental version of a rendering engine that happens to produce the most visually pleasing simulation of light refracting through transparent mediums. The end result speaks for itself. We now have rendered hundreds of stunning jewelry designs using this methodology, giving a select few clients a preview of their custom-designed vision. Good morning, everyone! Thinking about vision this morning. I read something recently that just blew me away: our eyes only see the world in 2D! It’s the magic of our brains that convert what our eyes see and allow us to perceive the world around us in 3D. “We are 3D creatures, living in a 3D world but our eyes can show us only two dimensions.  The depth that we all think we can see is merely a trick that our brains have learned; a byproduct of evolution putting our eyes on the front of our faces. The miracle of our depth perception comes from our brain's ability to put together two 2D images in such a way as to extrapolate depth.  This is called stereoscopic vision. Our eyes are sparated on your face, each retina produces a slightly different image.  That difference in images is a direct result of the depth of the objects that we are looking at. When those two images are assembled in your brain, they are interpreted as depth.” (https://lnkd.in/gRSMJin2) Now think about art through that lens! Is the depth perception and shadowing/highlighting painstakingly created in art to have us perceive the 2D seen canvas image as 3D all for naught? But yet there is a definite perceptual difference between a child’s pencil drawing of a face and the “Mona Lisa”.
