Having said that, QA/QC experience along with product knowledge is a plus. Product knowledge is critical. QA/QC expertise can be built rather quickly internally. Whether its Commercial Lending, Trade, Collateral Management. Looks for technical skillset and your questions/evaluations should be around those skillsets to evaluate candidates. E.g.: (a) Lending background: Conceptual understanding of Loan/Trade life cycle, Syndication, Agency, Bilateral, Pricing -RFR, DILO (Day in Life of) of a deal administrator, IMPACT/risk of transactions processing – Funding/Trade/Payments etc. Borrower/Lender query management, Breaks reconciliation, Treasury management, KYC. Loan IQ knowledge, Detective/Preventive controls etc. (b) If you are looking for a fitment in trade – Look for skillsets in candidates around guarantees, SBLC, Export/Import financing, Invoicing - questions should revolve around these topics. Remember we have an opportunity to hire the best from the market. Make use of it by getting in the best. Its all right to be picky. Focus on Meritocracy. Average/OK is NOT OK. We will have to build a culture within CofQ which aligns with our organization. So, look for right attitude and stability in candidates. Commercial Lending/Loan operation background: They should have operations/QA experience in Commercial Loan origination/Servicing/Documentation/Trading activities. Key words in resume to look for: Loan servicing activities for Agency, Syndication and Bilateral deals. Deal Closing, Loan Servicing, Trade closing, settlement, Loan Documentation, Trade support, Reconciliations, Loan syndications, SBLC, Guarantees etc. Good understanding of the Loan/Mortgage life cycle Mortgage Loan operations experience can be look at as a possibility. Underwriting, Payoff, Invoicing – Insurance/fees are key words in resume to look for.
