Our latest blog post highlights that Embodied Energy will be a part of the CALGreen requirements starting July 1, 2024. Buildings contribute 40% to global carbon emissions and present unique challenges in carbon accounting, creating an urgent need for such regulation. ENERlite Consulting performs embodied carbon analysis to help our clients toward decarbonization and #sustainability goals. Future Cleantech Festival Preview | Building a path to net zero: our Construction Chapter Have you considered how we will build our houses and infrastructure sustainably in the future? Concrete is currently the literal building block of the modern world. However, the production of cement to make concrete contributes to around 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Cement-making is viewed as one of the toughest hard-to-abate sectors, since 60% of its emissions come from the core chemical process, and even the energy-related emissions (30%) are at such high temperatures (up to 1450°C) that few competitive or scalable low-carbon options exist. Beyond the technical challenges, decarbonizing cement is difficult economically and requires a systemic paradigm change in the construction industry. Join us this May 28-29 in Remscheid, Germany, for our Future Cleantech Festival, where we will look at technical approaches that use significantly less emissions-intensive materials. We will see alternatives to cement / concrete and discuss the role of carbon reduction measures and the most effective policies to facilitate the adoption of sustainable practices in the construction sector! We recognise that there is no single solution to decarbonising energy in buildings. A range of technology solutions, financing models, and delivery methods are required. In practice, reducing the energy needs of buildings requires a multi technology solution, tailored to the circumstances of the building and its occupants. In other words, a whole building, technology neutral approach, which starts with the building fabric.
