🌈 Leaders, Your Role in Supporting Pride ERGs is Crucial 🌈 As we celebrate Pride Month, it's vital to reflect on how we support our Pride Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). To help with this, Equality Leaders have designed a toolkit. Cultivating connection and growing community across ERGs, both internally and externally, is important if we are to enable impactful change across our organisations and meaningfully partner with LGBTQ+ communities. By bringing LGBTQ+ employee network leaders together to knowledge-share and build, we can create the support networks needed. This can help us better understand how each group are navigating their own change journeys and help create more inclusive environments where all LGBTQ+ employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. Talking about diversity is inherently emotional and can be complex. However, doing the work and research to understand basic facts about any community can make any interaction more inclusive and meaningful. There are few corporate initiatives as important as creating diverse, equitable, and inclusive spaces for the LGBTQ+ community.     According to EY, Gen Z is six times more likely to identify as LGBTQ+ compared to Gen X, and with Gen Z making up 30% of the workforce by 2030, this underscores the growing necessity for inclusive policies in the workplace.    While we celebrate and uplift the progress that has been made over the past few decades, we simultaneously acknowledge that we as a society have a long way to go in ensuring that every workplace embraces diversity, promotes equity, and empowers all individuals.     Our work in this space inspires deep hope for what's to come. Although great advice for leaders ahead of Pride month, these 6 key questions are just as useful when considering how to accelerate the impact of all ERGs.

🌈 Celebrating Pride Month at GS As we kick off Pride Month, it's crucial to recognise both the strides society has made and the ongoing challenges for the LGBTQ+ community globally and here in the UK. Globally, the top challenges include: ·      Discrimination and Violence: Daily threats to safety and well-being. ·      Legal Inequality: Many countries still lack legal protections for LGBTQ+ rights, with some even criminalising same-sex relationships. ·      Healthcare Disparities: Significant barriers to accessing appropriate healthcare. In the UK: While the UK has made significant progress since decriminalising homosexuality in 1967, challenges remain, particularly around trans rights and the rise in hate crimes. Higher rates of mental health issues persist due to discrimination and stigma, with the Black LGBTQ+ community facing even greater disparities. Disabled members of the LGBTQ+ community face unique barriers in accessing mental health services, compounding their marginalisation. Allyship and Advocacy: Pride Month is a time to celebrate, but also to ally with the LGBTQ+ community. Public sector leaders hold immense power in shaping societal norms, thus advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. Their allyship sends a strong message of acceptance and inclusion, fostering empathy and encouraging positive changes in policies and legislation.
