Earlier this month, India commissioned three major naval combatant vessels in a single ceremony for the first time in the nation's history. The submarine Vagsheer, the destroyer Surat, and the frigate Nilgiri were inducted into service at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders in Mumbai. With plans to field 170 to 175 ships by 2035, the coming decade will see a rapid transformation and expansion of India's existing Navy, potentially redefining the balance of power in an increasingly contested Indian Ocean. My latest article on New Delhi's historic triple commissioning is live on Forecast International's Defense and Security Monitor. https://lnkd.in/eUfZssA7

🌊 Indian Navy Day: Remembering Operation Trident – A Legendary Strike! 🌊 On this day, 4th December 1971, the Indian Navy scripted an unforgettable chapter in history with Operation Trident, a bold and decisive night assault during the Indo-Pak war. It was the first-ever use of anti-ship missiles in the region and a masterstroke of naval strategy. Under the cover of darkness, our naval fleet launched a surprise attack on Karachi port, the nerve center of Pakistan’s maritime operations. With unmatched precision, Indian missile boats and destroyers: 1. Destroyed fuel storage facilities, plunging Pakistan’s naval logistics into chaos. 2. Sank key enemy warships, including PNS Khyber and PNS Muhafiz. 3. Inflicted devastating damage, with zero casualties on our side. 💥 Why Operation Trident stands as a maritime legend: 1. It showcased India’s technological and strategic prowess. 2. The victory shifted the tides of the 1971 war, paving the way for India’s ultimate triumph. 3. It inspired generations of naval officers with its bold execution and success. Today, as we commemorate Indian Navy Day 2024, we honor not just the legacy of Operation Trident but also the unwavering dedication of our naval forces who embody the motto: “Sham No Varunah” – May the Lord of the Oceans be auspicious unto us. 🇮🇳 Saluting the guardians of our seas, then and now – forever vigilant, forever victorious. #IndianNavyDay #OperationTrident #ShamNoVarunah #MaritimeHeroes #1971War #PrideOfIndia #JaiHind
