🌟 National Simplify Your Life Week! 🌱 This “Holiday” aims to encourage people to rid their lives of physical and psychological clutter. We’ve talked about stress before, and this is a great reminder to simplify our lives so we can be less stressed. 😌 This is an excellent time to remove blocks causing stress in your life. This not only includes physical stress but also includes negative thoughts, toxic relationships, and unhealthy work environments, to name a few. 🚫 So, where do you start to simplify your life? Let’s start by organizing your week, this includes scheduling your exercise and meals, for example. 🗓️🏋️♀️🍽️ Secondly, let's declutter the parts of your home and/or office causing your stress. 🏠🗂️ Thirdly, disconnect from social media and take a break from your gadgets for an hour a day. Go back to old-fashioned enjoying nature or a book. 📵🌳📖 Lastly, unwind and do something you enjoy. I loved this HBR article which was brought to my attention by Karyn Twaronite- it speaks to the importance of employees taking their holiday leave and using that time to feel refreshed and recharged. https://lnkd.in/ezmbYVSC The article by Rebecca Zucker details how taking a vacation is, in fact, incredibly important for everyone, as not only does it improve a person’s physical and mental well-being, it helps to create a sustainable workplace. September always feels like a bit of a new year for me and our Beyond the Barriers Team, as it’s a time to refresh and review progress as we prepare for the last quarter of 2023. We have had our summer break and are eagerly looking forward to the rest of the year. We completely agree with the article’s three main pillars of how a holiday can benefit employees- Holidays help our brain by providing us with an opportunity for better sleep and rest, clearing our mind and consequently boosting creativity and productivity upon our return. They benefit our body, reducing stress hormones, allowing our immune system to recover and reducing the risk of future illnesses. Lastly they are good for our soul, allowing us to reconnect with our ‘authentic selves’ and come back ready for work. If you're unsure what that means for you, here are some simple tips to help you feel better and live a balanced, healthy life: 😊 👉🏾 Find physical activities you enjoy, like dancing, cycling, or playing sports. Exercise doesn't have to feel like a chore. 👉🏾 Pay attention to how food affects your body. Try adding more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to your meals. Experiment with new recipes or enjoy a colourful salad. 👉🏾 Create a bedtime routine that helps you relax, such as reading, taking a bath, or listening to calming music. Consistent sleep patterns can make a big difference. 👉🏾 Take a few minutes each day to breathe deeply. 👉🏾 Spend time with friends and family. Chat over coffee, video call, or send a thoughtful message to someone important to you. 👉🏾 Make time for hobbies or activities that make you happy, whether it's painting, playing music, gardening, or writing. 👉🏾 Find small ways to pamper yourself, like enjoying a cup of tea, going for a walk in nature, or indulging in a favourite hobby.

If there’s one piece of advice I would give my younger self, it would be to slow down, and live the moment. Worry less. Take breaks. Use annual leaves. Punch out on time. Without diving into the philosophical reasons behind the importance of taking time off, the truth of the matter is quite simple.
