It’s not just any old Friday—it’s Leadership in Action Friday! Today, we’re bringing you a story of leadership from Connecticut. Crew Leader Pablo Lafebre was traveling down Route 114 when he noticed two employees from a private company setting up ropes in a tree right next to a three-phase primary wire, not only risking an outage for the area should the wire get damaged, but also putting themselves in danger. Pablo, immediately aware of the danger, called his General Foreperson, Brandon Kendzierski, right away. Brandon arrived at the scene, confirmed the safety risk, and informed an arborist from United Illuminating, the utility company responsible for the power line. The arborist then had the employee, who had already started to climb the tree, get back on the ground. Pablo’s actions were so impressive that United Illuminating later sent us an email commending him. Because of the ongoing training here at Lewis, Brandon says he and his crews are well versed in the dangers of utility vegetation management. Brandon wasn’t surprised that Pablo spotted the danger right away and took the time to acknowledge it.
