I remember complaining to Apple about discovery within the first year of the App Store launching while I was at indie studio IUGO. It's a tale as old as time, and has a lot of layers to it. I fought for visibility of free-to-play games while at PlayStation when that was a brand new concept to console players. I ran Indie Corner (all the credit goes to Maria Kameko 🔜 GDC who created it) over at Google Play and pushed hard to have that little corner of gold surfaced on the main page as much as possible. I think there are ways to build awareness around genres (strategy, puzzle, action, etc) and game verticals (indie, free-to-play, XR, etc) that otherwise fall under the radar of gamers. But Robert Fahey is correct, we have a "too much content" problem and that's certainly not going away. We're seeing devs of all sizes learn how to grow their own communities and lean into good ol' word of mouth for virality (among lots of other tactics). I'm curious to see what new storefronts do, particularly in the realm of mobile (looking at you Epic Games and Netflix). While there is no silver bullet, I do think there are still creative and clever ways to be uncovered when it comes to games discoverability.
