Materials that enter into The Beer Store's take-back system have an impressively high success rate, meaning those materials can be used again and again via refill or to make new containers. Today is the United Nations International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste. Estimates suggest that 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions are associated with food that is not consumed. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the average American family of four throws away roughly $1,500 worth of food every year. Household food waste might include uneaten leftovers, expired pantry essentials, or produce gone bad.
