Do you know length of wrench shall be how much for fastening bolt of valves?
In most workshops extended F shape wrenches used for any size of valves but it is not safe and thechnical.
According to API 621 handwheel wrenches shall be limited to a length of approximately twice the size(DN or NPS) of valve being tested. Extensions on the wrenches shall not be used. Handwheel wrenches shall not be used on valves with gear operations.

After a product is welded, how will we determine whether the welding quality meets the requirements? ❓
*#visualinspection : to check if the welding looks good and functional after assembly. It is mainly used for products with conventional welding requirements.
*#leakagetest: to place the welded product in a test container to observe whether the air tightness is good. It is mainly used for boxes or tanks that store gas or liquid.
*#magneticparticleinspection : to reveal surface and near-surface crack defects of materials through advanced instruments accurately. It is mainly used for various types of pressure-bearing equipment and pipeline welding products.
After completing the welding process, we will verify the quality and weld integrity of each product through rigorous testing based on the customer's requirements or product usage functions.
Look forward to discussing and sharing more tests to verify product quality with you. If you are interested in it, please leave a message in the comment section to let me know. 😀

Before the piping system is placed in operation either first time or after maintenance, all joints (flanged, welded, threaded etc) need to be tested and checked for leak tightness 🔦
Test method to be decided based on fluid category and sensitivity of the systems.
🔘 Hydrostatic Test
🔘 Pneumatic Test
🔘 Service Leak Test
🔘 Alternative Leak Test (NDT)
Refer to ASME B31.3

Category M Fluid service:
💨 small leak and short exposure can be dangerous and harmful. (example rich sour gas)
🔧 requires additional measures for leak tightness than for other category fluid. (eg condensate)

Today I completed another random site audit on Omega colleagues working on Hinkley Point C where I witnessed them completing exothermic welding on conductors later to be buried approximately 20 foot below built up ground level.
It was great to see the flexible ignition system also being used instead of the traditional flint gun to ignite the cadweld powder reducing the risk of a burn injury.
Exothermic welding, also known as exothermic bonding or thermite welding, is a process that creates a permanent, high-quality electrical connection between two or more metal components. This method typically involves a chemical reaction between a powdered metal mixture (often aluminum and copper oxide) and a reaction starter (igniter). Using this method means you can bury the joint without fear of potentially corrosion you may get later, if the joint is bolted or clamped and there is water ingress between the overlapped conductors.
During the exothermic welding process, the mixture undergoes an exothermic reaction, generating intense heat. This molten metal is then poured into a mold’s cavity from the crucible down the mould’s taphole, surrounding the conductors to be joined. As it cools and solidifies, it forms a durable, electrically conductive connection.
Exothermic welding is commonly used for grounding applications in electrical and lightning protection systems due to its reliability and longevity.
Due to the heat caused during the process and the heat of the conductor(s) immediately after, a fire watch person must be present. On this occasion, the customer provided this person.
Well done to our colleagues in the south west for evidencing that work as imagined is as work done on site, another great audit outcome. #qualityassurance#qualitymanagement#earthing#omega#sheqman
Q16. What is the primary purpose that distinguishes Post-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) from post-heat in welding?
1. Improving visual appearance
2. Controlling cooling rates during welding
3. Relieving residual stresses and enhancing mechanical properties
4. Minimizing the risk of thermal distortion

Hydrostatic testing of a centrifugal pump:
The hydrostatic testing of a centrifugal pump casing as API 610. Here’s a breakdown of the key points:
1. Purpose of the Hydrostatic Test:
- The intent is to ensure that the design and construction of the pump pressure casing, including components and joints, are leak-free under specified operational conditions.
2. Testing Requirements:
- Assembly Testing: All pressure-casing components must be tested as complete assemblies, ensuring that the integrity of the entire unit is evaluated.
- Testing Conditions:
- The test liquid used must be at least 1.5 times the Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP).
- The duration for which the test should be conducted is a minimum of 30 minutes.
Summary
These requirements are crucial for ensuring the reliability and safety of the pump under operational conditions. Hydrostatic testing helps identify any potential leaks or weaknesses in the construction of the pump casing before it is put into service.
