Nowadays, common people visiting doctors often fear being subjected to unnecessary tests for the sake of money. Even one who doesn’t care for the money part has the fear of being subjected to unnecessary trauma for the body. I don’t know how true it is that doctors would do this for money. I pray it is not true. But I know for sure this fear exists among common people and is probably increasing. This is also an undesirable side effect of advanced health care systems with too many things to test and a very complex decision making process for proper diagnosis. Understanding how the human body actually works is still probably beyond human comprehension!! Medical community should do something to remove this fear and keep this noble profession noble, so that common people can meet doctors with more trust and less fear.

Last night, I attended a party with friends (primarily female) where the topic of health care and patient treatment came up. A girlfriend opened up about a recent experience where she learned after many tests, scans and referrals to specialists that sometime between 2017 and 2020 she suffered a massive “cardiac event” where she “should be dead”. I was completely horrified. Her cardiologist used “you should be dead” as words to explain non-chalantly what happened. Bedside manner doesn’t exist to this individual and he is rated very poorly on ratemymd. He also suggested that his job was to: 1. Tell her to exercise and eat healthy 2. Operate on her 3. Prescribe her medicine As someone who operates in the fitness and wellness space, I was disgusted by this story. My ultimate mission is to help people and connect them to resources. That’s one of my superpowers. I know a little about a lot! Basically, my girlfriend suffered a heart attack, didn’t even know it (she thought it was bad heartburn) and was sent home with heartburn meds. You do not need to get stuck with crappy specialist. It is possible to get referred to another one either through the specialist themselves or through your family physician. A lot of times people get referred to buddies from medical school. So you need to be aware of this bias in health care. That doesn’t mean you are getting the best doctor. They could have just squeaked by and passed their exams. Maybe they pay their dues on time with the College of Physicians and Surgeons. Always get a second opinion, only you can demand it! If you are reading this and think “I know someone who was overlooked by a doctor, overprescribed something that didn’t suit them, or just plain ignored” there are advocacy channels out there. You do not need to fight alone. https://lnkd.in/gRsvV4Eq https://lnkd.in/gdZ4fmJz

As doctors, we can feel that we must always maintain control and keep it all together in order to serve others. This expectation can feel deeply ingrained and often leaves little room for us to acknowledge our vulnerabilities and need for compassion. Yet, it is essential to remember that we, too, are human—deserving of the same kindness, support, and understanding we so generously extend to those we care for. The concept of common humanity invites us to shift our perspective to see beyond the titles and roles that define us in our clinical settings. It encourages us to recognise that we experience moments of doubt, fatigue, and emotional unease from time to time. This realisation is not a sign of weakness but a reminder of our shared human experience. In embracing our common humanity, we pave the way for a more compassionate and supportive medical community where doctors feel empowered to seek help, share their struggles, and care for their well-being without fear of judgment or stigma. It fosters an environment where the well-being of doctors is given as much importance as that of the patients we serve. #healthehealers #humansinhealthcare #wellbeingfordoctors #selfcompassion

My perfect death? ✅At an old age, ✅With good health until the end, ✅Asleep in my bed, ✅And, selfishly, before my spouse (joking a little, but that post death paperwork is not for the faint of heart!) End of life is not a singular event. With advances in medicine, it is often a cascade of medical decisions. There are decisions that you, and your medical proxies, make that may prolong the dying process without adding value to your life. An advance directive can help guide your medical decision makers in the type of care that you would, and would not, want in the case of serious medical illness. Of course, having these discussions is the most important part of the process. If you would like an excellent read on the cascade of medical decisions at the end of life, I recommend “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” by Katy Butler It is well-researched, captivating, and told from her personal perspective of caring for her dad. #advancedirective #advancecareplanning #endoflife #advancecare #livingwill #medicalwishes #advancedirectives #estateplanning

Most people are unaware that once you have a medical issue, your Life Insurance and Income Protection options potentially reduce. Of course, we help our clients to navigate this and achieve the best outcome possible, but the best way to overcome this is to get your policies before any health issues pop op!
Every day we meet people who want to protect their wealth and their families but unfortunately previous medical history makes it more challenging. We do our best to find a solution but often it comes with a compromise such as an exclusion of a particular health issue. The best way to avoid this is to apply for cover before the medical event. Unfortunately we have no idea when that medical event will occur; the only way to get around this, is to apply for the cover as soon as possible. Don’t put it off, you may regret it!

When medical mistakes happen, patients and their families often find themselves at a loss trying to figure out exactly what went wrong. Something bad happened. And then, communication drops; there's no real explanation, and no apology. Suddenly, everybody seems on guard. Health care providers can often feel bound by an imposed cone of silence that's designed to protect them and their institution, but makes it impossible to fully face up to their mistake, or have open conversations about preventing future ones. On this episode, we explore the breaking of that silence, along with new solutions to avoid medical errors. We hear stories about what prompted one surgeon to go public after performing the wrong procedure, how the death of a young woman prompted her parents to try and change the system, and an investigation into an OB-GYN and the trail of injured women left in his wake.

Have you ever experienced medical gaslighting? I want to hear your story. Medical gaslighting happens when a doctor dismisses, downplays or invalidates your health concerns. They may say your symptoms are "all in your head" or "just stress." Sadly, this happens all too often and the impacts can be devastating - delayed diagnoses, prolonged suffering, trauma and self-doubt. If you have experienced medical gaslighting, please share your story below. Let's break the culture of silence and support each other. You deserve to be heard. Your pain is real. I would love to know: What symptoms were dismissed? How did it make you feel? Did you get a second opinion or find a more supportive doctor? What would you tell others who have been gaslit by the medical system? By sharing our stories, we can educate others, advocate for change, and make sure no one else feels alone in this struggle. Our voices are powerful. https://lnkd.in/gDnKJTkk or link in bio! • • • • • #drpingel #redefineyourhealth #naturopathicmedicine #naturopath #healthyliving #healthylifestyle #naturalwellness #healthandwellness #bewell #healthiswealth #wellnessjourney #healthtips #gaslighting #gaslightingawareness #gaslightingisabuse #medicalgaslighting #patientcare #consult #consultation #consultations #medicalcare #doctorpatient #minmize #minimizing #propercare #treatments #treatment #gooddoctor #healthprofessionals #doctorcare
