A crisis with no definitive solution in sight... "Thousands of Victorian students are returning to school on Tuesday without a permanent classroom teacher or subject teacher due to staffing shortages that are biting nationwide. For many, it will mean a revolving door of relief teachers, cancelled subjects or being split up and placed with other classes, which research shows will have negative effects on their learning. Without the brilliant workforce within further education colleges ‘this country doesn’t work’. We deliver the skilled workforce that are the nation’s future plumbers, accountants, nurses, carers, electricians, lawyers, tree surgeons, veterinary nurses and the list of professions we train young people, and adult returners, to enter is endless. The gap between college teaching staff and school teachers has just got even worse with the Government deciding not to award college staff the 5.5% increase that they have given to school teachers. In many colleges across the country, further education teachers are having to teach Maths and English GCSEs to hundreds of thousands of learners every year, because they did not achieve these qualifications at school. Yet the Government do not recognise teachers in schools and further education colleges equally. This is why I have signed the below petition: https://chng.it/GHYQj22yxH
